This episode first aired 10+ years ago, which is a lucky thing for Sam because he would have been eviscerated on social media and likely would have lost his job for the abusive behaviour he exhibited towards his wife. He showed how he not only emotionally and psychologically abused her, but also financially - financial abuse is a very real thing that isn’t talked about nearly enough. By making significantly less than her husband Stephanie felt like she couldn’t go at it alone - which is exactly what he wanted. He is a walking red flag and malignant narcissist. Little Napoleon - he is a short, bald, egotistical nobody. Ladies, if this isn’t proof that you need to get the education/training for a good paying career, I don’t know what is. When your only option is a low paying job that would never be enough to support 3 children - you give all your power to what often is a controlling narcissist. Please, please teach this to your daughters.🇺🇸❤🇨🇦

As a financial advisor, I hope everyone learns from this episode, especially if you are still searching for your mate. To achieve financial success in your family, you need good communication with your partner. This matters more than income made or the gifts they buy you or occupation they have. Without a commitment to positive, productive communication...you will face tough challenges as a couple. These situations can also lead to financial infedility and financial abuse. Even if you are the caregiver and not working, get involved or at minimum build a relationship with a good trustworthy financial advisor who will help mitigate these conversations. I've Gail Oxley for this! She's my inspiration. I've been watching her since childhood and read her books.

@barbaras6762 жыл бұрын
He is so much like my ex-husband!!! The way he talks to her, the fact that he is "never wrong", that he refuses to admit that his family comes first - so many triggers! We declared bankruptcy twice and lost our house to foreclosure before I finally wised up and realized he would never change. This narcissistic, controlling behavior on his part and her shutting down (like I did) and waiting him out hit home. I hope she realizes that he is ruining her and the children's lives and gets out!

Sam: "Stephanie, I gave you the opportunity to walk away a long time ago...if this is not what you want, the kids will..." Stephanie: "Whose saying any of that? No one is saying any of that." Everyone: STEPHANIE YOU NEED TO BE SAYING THAT!

I've been there. Those ultimatums are really hard, they somehow make you more attached. Partly because you know that if you take the opportunity the blow up will be of nuclear proportions, partly because they make you feel it's your failure, and a whole host of reasons. Plus you are confused and exhausted all the time. I hope she's ok now and I kinda hope he's miserable.

You don't tell narcasists what to do. They are special and deserve the best. You don't take away the narcasists toys. You don't not defend your narcasist when their toys are being taken or someone is saying a bad thing about them. The narcasist is never wrong.

I believe this episode could be used as a teaching tool to expose abuse in its finest form. He probably used to hit her but got scared of the cops. Mental, emotional and financial abuse are what are on display here. His use of manipulation was a fine example. Wow
@CaraMarie132 жыл бұрын
There was no way Gail was going to get through to them because like she said, the main issue was not the money but the relationship itself. I've always find myself surprised with people who fight so hard to hang on to something that, even to them, is broken. Like that relationship ran it's course and just like his need to keep up appearing with all the stuff he buys, that marriage is there to maintain an image. I really hope that she at least took Gail up on her offer for counseling. She cannot continue living in that environment. She has become completely compliant towards him and that is a true to shame for any person. This is truly the first time I was genuinely concerned for the safety of the spouse. Like i would not be surprised if he was physically abusive as well.

This was heartbreaking to watch. That guy is so self righteous. His attitude will cost his family everything. I felt for the wife, I've been there years ago. Living with a narcissist wears a person down so much over time that you are left feeling helpless. I really hope that she did the counseling and learned her own worth as a woman. That relationship is never going to last unless he puts his ego aside and takes a hard look at his own accountability for the mess they are in.

"You're feeding you're own ego!" Dear God that was heavy but so true. My Uncle was like that, he'd brag about how much he gave his kids for Xmas. When Xmas came along in our House we'd discuss how much we'd spend for Xmas. We'd give a list of three things but My Sister and I always made sure that even when we went beyond the Three Things we could afford it. We always gave the Folks more because of what they did for us.

If Dave Ramsey was working with this couple, this is what I believe he would say: 1) Sell the cars and buy two beater cars since you don’t need any car payments. 2) You two (Stephanie and Sam) need to sell so much stuff. This includes your televisions, your screen projector, and anything of value. 3) You both (Stephanie and Sam) need to work extra jobs and work 80 hours a week, starting Now. 4) Stop going to payday lenders and getting cash advances because your spending more in interest. 5) Cut up the stupid credit cards and pay cash. 6) You’re going on a beans and rice, rice and beans diet and you’re not eating out unless you’re working at a restaurant and they provide you with a free meal.
