I have my mother’s yellow BC recipe box…I’m 62. I loved looking through it and using the recipes as a kid. As a teen, I was in Junior Achievement. Our company was named Universal. For our end of year stockholders meeting, I made a World Cake, like a globe, using the recipe from the yellow box! It was such a hit and one of my favorite memories in our floral brown with yellow and rust, shiny wallpapered kitchen. Oh to live that 70s life again!

I learned how to cut up chickens at my first ever job when I was 16 years old. Once you've cut through the backbone and splayed out the chicken, you can easily push the breastbone out by pushing on the breastbone from the outside of the chicken. Before I got to that part, l had already cut off the wings, legs and thighs making it easier to push out that breastbone. Don't know if this helps, but that's how I've done it for years. Tried to teach my oldest daughter (who is now 49 years old) and she just never wanted to learn. The specialty at that particular restaurant was broasted chicken and l would get in on cutting up at least 10 cases of chicken per week. I'm 67 now and that's how I learned to cut up chicken. I don't think that, to this day, my oldest daughter has ever cut up a chicken. Anyway l thought it might help a little bit if l told you how l did it because usually the breastbone pops out pretty easily. Peace 🕊️

I find good chicken shears help a lot to cut up chicken. I cut up the breast, down the sides to remove breasts, then cut the back bone in half laterally, then snip backbone on either side vertically to separate that. From there use a knife to get the wings and legs and thighs off. Mother always would break the bones at the joint by bending backward (so break the knee or the elbow or shoulder joint) which helps you get the knife in. A boning knife is easier to slip in between the joints.

My mom had that exact recipe box and cards! I think they would come as a pack through the mail. I loved going through the cards and making the desserts. What’s funny is there is a company I have seen on KZbin selling the same concept, packs of recipe cards that you can store in a box. I have to say what an incredible butternut squash you grew!

My mum had those cards she always made the meatloaf from them and I still make it. Then when the school had the fete she would make marshmallows, toffees. Did you put up a video of you and daddy diving yesterday as 1 popped up yesterday but I can't find it anymore . It was you diving at the dumpster where the water comes out of the pipe as you were saying they have a new dumpster. But I noticed it wasn't on your name to the video so didn't end up watching it .

I've cut up many a chicken during my career as a 'domestic goddess,' but I was thinking that maybe the butcher will cut up the chicken for you next time. 😐 I was cringing as I watched you struggle with that bird, all the while praying that you didn't cut yourself. 😳 Oh my gosh! the finished dish looked so delicious, Amy, and I'd have sworn that Frugal Daddy hadn't eaten in a week. 😄 FYI: I also have one of those avocado green recipe boxes full of Betty Crocker recipes, so I'll have to look through mine to find the card with that recipe on it so I can taste that Waikiki sweet and sour pineapple chicken for myself. Thanks for reminding me of all of the goodness hiding in that little plastic box. 😊🥰🥰🥰
