It is absolutely mind boggling, how a multiple failure like Lars Windhorst is able to charm himself back into the upper echelons of society and the finance industry, which can only be attributed to the utter greed of people all around. Under no circumstances should someone like Windhorst receive any further investment, yet people are not happy with 8-10% returns and are exposing themselves to ridiculous risks, while many of them could easily live very comfortably off such "regular" returns. You get what you ask for...

Windhorst has no reputation in germany and his investments went into already struggling companies for many years. But he did not manage those to improve the efficiency to make those profitable again. Those went bankrupt like the ship yard in northern germany and many more.

I am stuck at how he was able to set up in Mayfair. He had to ask his parents for money after it all went belly up. What was he doing for the ten years he was a bankrupt? Then he acquires the Mayfair pad fitting it with black marble. I would be really interested in what he did for that period and the minutiae of exactly how he got to that point from having to ask his mum for money. It was not really covered.

Please enjoy watching "Wall Street" (1987) during Christmas break... and listen to antagonist "Gekko" announcing: "Greed Is Good" There you will have the answer. Sad: If you set up profitable wind farms at even favourable sites, but with few percent of annual profit above inflation and only after staying invested for 20 years... then fundraising will be harder than for some ponzi scheme with "20% per year" nonsense in a market economy with 3% annual growth rates. People switch off brains which would ask them: "Hey, wait a minute... where could those profits really come from - if mostly moving money back and forth or converting equity into loans and back?" In "Wall Street" you find a prominent concept that is to buy a company, ideally with long grown assets (often debt free after decades of loan repayments e.g. on buildings) - which you then simply liquidate or drown in new debt (which you pay out as "profit" - and some of it as "bonuses" to managers for such good, yet not sustainable way of "doing business").

I have always appreciated the work FT does and their research in general, but I have to wonder why this obsession with German companies and people. Dont get this wrong - if there is something wrong go for it. But for the last few years there has been a heavy focus on one particular country, while there are at least as many bad apples to be found right in the UK that dont get covered.

The guy seems to be the goat, shame the FT didn't come up with any real numbers and actual facts other than "something fishy is going on" and "look at those expenses" and "look at these fines". I mean how many banks and funds are sniggering at this right now? I do appreciate what the FT does, but I really would like to see some more fundamental information. Much more - he's not operating out of the UKs own private financial black holes the Channel and Caribbean islands, or other ones like Panama or China, is he??? Is this going to be a series?
