Low income medicaid and insurance subsidies are based on your magi. It appears to be to be the only welfare based on magi instead of gross income. In the usa, if you max out your ira and 401k, you can make approximately $45k a year and still receive medicaid. Would this be an incentive or a loop hole? The government wants you to save for the future, and it's cheaper to do routine checkups than wait for some kind of disability to strike. On the other hand, my accountant said it's not the purpose of the laws and this process is immoral.
