How can you tell the difference between a sprain and a tear without imaging?
@necromancer___30545 ай бұрын
You don’t, imaging should be done to confirm

Best treatments to subside the pain? It hurts to fully bend the knee and walking sucks if there’s something I can do to alleviate Some of this I’m all ears

Can the MCL be injured from direct impact on the side of the knee ? But no bending, just decently hard direct impact ?
@TheBasketballDoctors5 ай бұрын
Hi, great question. Yes, direct/blunt trauma can cause injury to the MCL and surrounding area.

I worked on a ladder all day, up and down, up and down, no pain. But when I woke up I could hardly get out of bed! Can't bend my left knee, slightly swollen on the inside ,and if I touch the small area it's very painful, like it's just under the skin. But I can put my full weight on it no problem. Is it mcl,or miniscus??
@TheBasketballDoctors Жыл бұрын
Hard to say exactly what it is, but it sounds more like a cartilage/meniscus issue rather than a ligament issue
@kfiscal01 Жыл бұрын
@The Basketball Doctors Yea, it's day 5 and the pain has subside 60% as well as the swelling. I can bend it some not nearly 45 degrees. I've been doing RICE, and ibuprofen, hot tub every night, then ice again. I have to work by Thursday hopefully.

I was dunking, landed and the outer side of my right knee felt like it was obsorbing all the pressure and since then (5 days) the inner part of my right knee is a bit swollen and hurts. Tear, Sprain?

Hi, thanks for sharing your story. Seem like a sprain, but we suggest you get properly evaluated by a healthcare provider and develop a plan of care for you

@@TheBasketballDoctors yeah. I got worried that I tore something lol. So its just a bruised something inside right?

@@bestkept1135 Hard to say, but yea doesn't seem like anything structural so likely just some type of irritation/bruise around that area

I am 29 and have had a pain inside my knees for two years. My right knee I can only describe as feeling like the hinge is rusty. Sometimes it’s painful to even sit in a car for longer periods of time. When I try to pinpoint the pain with my hands I can not find it. Just not sure if it could be mcl or not :-(
@TheBasketballDoctors Жыл бұрын
Hey, thanks for sharing your story and sorry to hear that you're dealing with that. You may be dealing with something different. We suggest you get properly evaluated by a healthcare provider to develop a plan of care, as well as, only a MRI or imaging will give you a definitive answer on what's going on at the knee. In the mean time, there is plenty of rehab you can do to help manage/improve your symptoms & function.

are kneecaps still in the question. or can everyone move their kneecap
@TheBasketballDoctors2 жыл бұрын
Knee caps are supposed to move on everyone. Like any joint they can move too much, too little or just the right amount. Varies person to person

Hello sir, I started feeling MCL pain in both knees (mostly my right knee) way back in April of this year (2023). And I believe I also developed a bit of pain in both my ACL’s too. So I just got a X ray and Ultrasound done. And it’s been way over a week now, yet still my doctor hasn’t got back to me about the results. This probably means there is nothing wrong with my Ligaments. I also went for Physiotherapy back in September for a tricep tendinitis, so I decided to mention my ligament problem. My physiotherapist did some tests like knee movements and such. She said there was nothing wrong. But I know myself, there is something still up with them. I believe the ligaments have basically healed, but there is still pain after running and other physical activities. My theory is that my ligaments may have healed, but could have my bones formed in the region of where the MCL sits? I did some research, and I heard about chronic MCL injury’s. I also noticed with my ACL. It rubs up against my osgood schallter (I’ve had this for a few years now). So for certain positions to sit in, like on my knees let’s say. I get quite a sharp pain in my acl because of it rubbing against my Osgood Schallter. Could it be that ever since the ligaments healed, that my bones have been formed into the mcl section? I hope you understand what I mean. But basically all I’m trying to say is that my ligaments are still hurting, but from what my doctors and physiotherapists have told me, my ligaments are fine. Anyways sorry for the long paragraph but please help me solve this because it’s been bugging me for a while now. Thanks very much sir!

@KristianB073 ай бұрын
@@ReverseKadz I’ll give you the update, that was 6 months ago. I got the results back and it turns out I have an Ossicle in my right knee. That’s probably what was causing the awkward pain. We also concluded that my legs might be a little sore because of growth issues, my legs haven’t fully developed.

could running while overweight cause an mcl sprain?
@TheBasketballDoctors Жыл бұрын
Unlikely unless there was a mechanism that would cause your knee to cave inward while you're running. If you're having inside knee pain without a mechanism, it is likely something else
@ahmada7333 Жыл бұрын
