You would love this Sis Jennifer. Frankincense was used as an element of worship in the OT. It’s made from Boswellian trees. It can grow in hard places. (Known to even grow out of solid rock) … In order to produce frankincense oil, they injure the tree by cutting it over and over… making incisions in the bark… the tree makes sap that produces an oil. It reminds me of Jesus, the real tree of life. The root of Jesse growing out of a rock… cut with stripes, and by his stripes… we are healed

The only thing most people do about it is just expect presents and don't talk about Jesus at all, as we all should. Perhaps you need to be more specific about who “we” is, because the “we” that you are describing may apply to some people, but it does not apply to everyone. What the enemy tries to do (through society, culture, consumerism, etc.) with things like Saint Nicholas and the details of celebrating Christmas-as he has done with essentially everything in creation throughout history-is to twist things into distractions and idols to get our focus off of God and what He did for us through His Son (Romans 1). It’s up to us whether we buy into satan’s distraction, or see through it and recognize that many of the things of creation are meant to be reflections and reminders of God that are supposed to point us back to Him and draw us closer to Him. So yes, some people have bought into the distractions, have made it about self, have pushed God out, etc. But not everyone has. And it’s important to recognize that it’s not so much the things themselves as much as what satan has twisted them into. To my main point, whether or not society recognizes it, Saint Nicholas himself was a Christian, who stood up for Jesus and modeled Matthew 25:40 for us. So to say that the real, historical person of Saint Nicholas has NOTHING to do with Jesus is not just untrue, it’s ridiculous. There is nothing wrong with acknowledging and remembering him as part of God’s story as long as it is pointing us back to Jesus, and to loving others as Jesus did, and as Saint Nicholas modeled after Him. It also doesn’t matter when Jesus was actually born. (We don’t even always celebrate our own birthdays on the actual day.) The point, simply, is to celebrate His birth-to talk about Him, to focus on Him, to know that all the things of Christmas are meant to point us to Him-which is precisely what “we” (my family and I) do.

I thought the gifts were given for these reasons: Gold is the gift you give a king. It was proper to honor a king you’re meeting with a gift of gold. King of Kings. Frankincense is the gift you give to God. It’s symbolic of the sweet fragrance of our holy prayers and worship to a Holy Spirit. Myrrh is a gift for embalming or preparation of a corpse. Jesus is the Son of man. He is human and his birth on earth was the gift of God for the salvation of men. He was born to die and take our sins with him on the cross. Myrrh was used to cover the smell of decay. He who knew no sin became the payment for sin through his death on the cross. Thank You Jesus for sharing your holiness and forgiveness with everyone who believes in You!
