Something that I haven't heard anyone talk about is that TSR with Low or Medium Post Processing is the only combination (that I found) that doesn't blur the peripheral vision when scoping with scoped weapons. I think this is the best option since you gain a lot of situational awareness during combat.

Thank you! This is like the 6th Grayzone optimization guide I've watched and you're the first to get frame gen right. I'd personally never use it but the only time it's arguably worth it is if you're already getting good performance and you're willing to take the latency hit for a mixed bag of visuals (more artifacts but more motion clarity). Those others all got a "do not recommend this channel" and you got a sub based on that alone.

If you go into the config and force all "anti aliasing" and upscaling off, you'll see the shadows are rendered as checkerboards as are many objects such as the foliage. The upscaling is essentially a necessary part of the design, and they don't let you actually disable it for this reason. You can't actually disable DLSS, rather just the super resolution part (as with the other options). This is why the shadows look shimmery and strange on low. If you disable AA in the config entirely it's very clear how they did it. C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\GZW\Saved\Config\WindowsClient AntiAliasingMethod=None

As a enviroment and lighting artist in unreal for almost 13 years Yes this is because of lumen But at the same time the problem of the devs not utilizing lumen correctly but this is a bigger issue i have with the game when people think the lighting looks great i am like man its not its terrible and sadly somthing you see a lot these days Why do you thing post prosessing doesnt change the fps a lot because the dont use it other then exposure and some collor changes And the just use the default lumen settings with 0 changes Also the fog is exponantional Hightfog and no this has 0 effect on performance the one thing that is optimized really well by default in UE for years now Also the settings go from 0 to 3 this is how UE works with the settings And mostly its Global ilimination Shadows Reflections on M The rest shut normaly be able to set to Hight Thsi is also the most comment setting during game development And this is were mostly the FPS is based on Now dont know how the did this But its sure a lot of stuff is done wrong

Helpful tips here! Thanks for the vid. No matter what i do, i cant get mine to look clear at all for some reason. It's like im permanently stuck on low-mid settings even if i change things to high/epic it doesnt change clarity at all. I've adjusted sharpness tried DLSS/FSR. DLSS is the best option but by no means clear enough to make anyone out past 40m. I have no issues with FPS at all. I'm running in the 80's mainly in DLSS Quality all high settings but it looks like someone scratched over everything or just smudged everything up real bad. It gave me a headache and i don't get headaches ever so something is terribly wrong with the clarity i believe. I dont see how alot of the videos i see have no traces of the scratchy/gritty and splotchy areas i see while playing. The videos i've seen look super clear even things off in the distance. I'm not sure what to do about it or if this is just what everyone gets and we dont notice it on the videos being posted but i feel like we are not getting what was showcased to us graphics wise. It just looks worse than what i was expecting so i'm bummed about that but i am enjoying the gameplay loop. Hopefully they can tweak this issue though..

If you can use either Nvidia Reflex or AMD's Antilag (depending on what GPU you have) that should help. Otherwise, that extra input delay is what you're stuck with, as Frame Generation generates frames *in between* real frames that cannot take user input.

Here he is! I was hoping you'd do one of your guides for this having followed you for Tarkov, great guide as ever! Question: When aiming down sights with and ACOG (x4) I seem to lose a large chunk of frames, like 30 ish! Not sure whether there's some weird picture-in-picture resolution shenanigans going on, or what settings might affect it? It's making me not use them and go for holos or irons.

I believe they are also using picture-in-picture rendering with scopes. Im not sure what their long term plan is for it but I do see them blurring out the surrounding when adsing with those scopes. To me, that signals that they might try to do some culling behind that blur to decrease the difference in FPS between the two. We'll see what they do.

Also running it in “Fullscreen Windowed” works way better than “Fullscreen” I run everything on the lowest and performance mode, also I have to use 1 resolution lower than my 2K res. Even then it randomly crashes, especially when I take out better gear for some sus reason😂 I have a GTX 1660 Super with a i7 something and 16GB RAM Im getting 30-40 frames

Great video. This game has some REALLY freakin weird preferences when it comes to settings. For example using internal FPS counter - FSR on quality gives me above 90FPS and yet when I'm using damn TSR it says it drops to 60 but... Game actually feels much smoother and looks sharper. Then there's DLSS - Usually DLSS has the best quality and performance on Nvidia cards and yet here - It's the most blurry and unstable upscaling method Then there's FPS counter itself... Is displays numbers but if you actually use external FPS counter it shows totally different results. Hell - Even STEAM build in FPS counter shows totally different FPS;) Also... In-game FPS counter is treated as a overlay and turning it off gives you some FPS;P Then there's Lumen - Software accelerated Lumen is actually rather well optimized feature. Fortnite, Everspace 2, Robocop - All use Lumen with fantastic performance. So again - No idea wth happened here. In short - For whatever reason the "worst" upscaling solution - TSR - seems to be the best. FPS counter doesn't work and is hitting performance and overall changing a lot of settings doesn't affect performance at all. I'm LOVING the game but they need some serious performance patches;P

On my 7900 XTX frame gen doesn't give me any latency after testing with it off. Now I'm up in the 100 FPS range. I get the ghosting for sure, but it doesn't bother me too much and the run FEELs a lot smoother with it on.

Rocking 32gb ram,.11600, 4070s (2k res). My cpu is 100% and kinda freaks out. Getting a lot of stutter and what feels like rubber banding . For me putting everything to epic, with quality upscaling and frame gen actually helps reduce all that. Suppose i cant complain as i get to enjoy the game on epic. All this to say, if you are heavily cpu bound like me, try maxing your settings to take the load of the cpu and put it on the gpu.

Remember, FSR feels smooth *because* of that Frame Generation tech. It may begin to feel delayed though if youre getting into a lot of tense firefights and need super quick reaction time.

This game looks extremely blurry even in native 4k on a 27 inch monitor, I have tried literally every setting combination and also tried windowed fullscreen but the game just looks like someone rubbed Vaseline on your screen, when you aim down a magnified scope it's actually really nice and sharp but unscoped and 1x is just a blurry mess, idk if this is a bug, engine issue or the just the game's graphics but it's disgusting.

I think Ray Tracing being integrated into some of the settings and not being able to turn it off is what's killing performance for a lot of systems, among other things. I think having the option to turn Ray Tracing off completely would benefit A LOT of people, because I can't hardly squeeze out 40 frames, and in order to get at least 60 I need to turn on Frame Gen and Super Resolution.

I agree, but part of the reason they do that is for the dynamic lighting of the environment. It may be that baking lighting in to all the locations of the map would either look TERRIBLE or completely kill being competitive otherwise. I'm looking forward to what they do to help with performance down the line.

I'd be okay running the game at medium settings, if it meant I can get 60 or more frame consistently. Instead, I get around 60 at HQ, but once I go out into the greater parts of the map, even with all my settings set to Low, Super Res, and FSR Frame Gen (can't do DLSS because I'm AMD), it's immediately dropping to 30 FPS. It's absolutely abysmal.

I have a i7 8700k with a rtx 1070 ti 32 Gb of ram, a MSI wide screen at 144 hertz and last night in 15 minutes manage to get good graphics at a stable 60 to 65 fps which is better than what I get in Streets the worst map Of Tarkov, I didn’t have much time so I will see tonight I’m sure I can get better. I think you can pull out good fps with decent graphics out of this game knowing what you’re doing. If you just log in the game and adjust the graphics settings in the game you won’t pull out more than 40 fps with a 8 years old system like mine. To the one crying for fps you just have to know what the F your doing with a PC The game is not setup for you to get good fps out of the box, same with Tarkov you have to ajuste a LOTS of things in your PC. Out of the box Gray Zone was giving me 25 fps, you have to understand it’s an Alpha early access If you have a better system than mine and can’t get good fps with decent graphics, you don’t know how to adjust your rig 😂

That's the world pf PC gaming...most players seem to not understand that PC's have too many variables...there not a closed system like Xbox or PS where the devs can build to max those systems capabilities...each PC is fairly unique, with different combo's of gpu, cpu, mobo, etc...and then all the different brands of those parts.

Hooking onto the game has crashed it once but it was solved with the "stealth" mode in RTSS. Also, I used CapframeX to run a couple benchmarks and it properly tabbed in the FG into the FPS numbers. Not really any issues here. (However, I did see that the in-game FPS counter would sometimes just *stop* completely until a full restart was done. Maybe that's what people were referring to?)

For the texture resolution, I see no difference above medium, I have a 3090 and my Vram usage go up just by 0.2 gb (epic setting), the only difference is less fps when your using a scope with magnification like 65-67fps instead of 75-77fps, 10 fps loss.

Is DLSS "AUTO" dynamic? Does it change or render depending on what's going on in that particular moment? Or does it "automatically" set to current resolution?

Good question! (And sorry for replying two weeks late lmao) DLSS "Auto" as far as I understand it adjusts the *preset* of DLSS based on what resolution you're playing the game at. I believe this can vary from game to game based on what the developers choose, but it has presets for 1080p, 1440p, and 4k. I do not think its any sort of dynamic resolution setting as there is no target framerate to base that scaling off off.

Remember, it's ideal for your GPU to be running at 99%. When someone mentions a GPU bottleneck, it doesn't necessarily mean that 99% GPU usage is a bad thing. It just indicates that it's maxed out, not that reaching 100% is inherently bad.

Super late response (my bad) but that *could* be a bug where the upscaling algorithms basically stops running, leaving you with just the internal, lower res it upscales from. I'd 100% report it to the devs if you're experiencing it still!

DLSS works for 20 / 30 series GPUs, just not the Frame Generation portion. NVIDIA does not support DLSS FG for anything except 40 series cards; 20/30 need to use FSR FG.

I don't understand why high GPU usage means that you are GPU bottlenecked, you want the highest GPU usage you can get. Your GPU bound when your CPU is usage is very low and you have to look at all the cores and threads individually to see that. because the CPU is waiting on the GPU so it can give it more instructions you want your GPU at 100% all the time. Your CPU bound when you have high CPU usage and low GPU usage because the GPU is waiting on instructions on what to do from the CPU. The only way you can fix high CPU usage is to upgrade. No settings are going to fix a CPU bound game. The only way that can be done is by the developers and there is only so much they can do depending on the game. The rest is up to how deep your pockets are because it's time to upgrade. That's just the way it is.

Second half I agree with, first half not. You do want the highest GPU usage you can get, but 100% usage is a bottleneck. Its not a *bad* thing; its just that the performance is limited by how quickly the GPU can churn out the frames. So (for instance) if you are at 100% usage with a 4060 and upgrade to a 4070, you'll likely see a decent improvement. However, if you are not at 100% usage with the 4060, jumping to the 4070 wont really help with performance (unless the VRAM was a concern).

Why haven't you updated to Windows 11? It is my understanding Windows 11 works bettter wih modern Intel CPU's and improves the scheduling of the performance and effeciency cores.

Those scopes are rendering a separate picture within the frame. This is done so that objects are rendered correctly through the scope at further distances, but it can cause a performance drop. This is purposeful, though, to stop you from getting shot at when someone shouldn't be seeing you through said scope.
