This technique is absolutely correct. This is absolutely how you do it.

Thanks for sharing. Now I have something to do tonight while the weather is nasty outside. This is a great time of the year to maintain all your knives and other hunting equipment, so when the summer comes, we can play harder.

This is a good technique if secondary bevel is wide, or if knife is scandi grind, but difficult to do on knives with thin bevel

I cannot make sense of this. "Until it stops." Until what stops? Are you moving the knife on the stone? It's kind of hard to tell because your hand is in the way.

Set the blade almost flat on the stone not completely flat because you'll scratch it on the sides. But lay it almost flat and then raise it very slowly until it stops. Raise the back of the night very slowly until it stops don't do it with a lot of strength don't do it fast. It will stop right on the factory edge. You can even wiggle it back and forth a couple times and you'll see that it stops in the same place every time wiggle it up and down I mean go up go down go up go down it will stop right on the factory edge right where the Apex touches the stone you can even watch this with your eyes when it stops there will be no gap between the Apex and the stone it'll be completely flat on it and against it. You'll get good enough you could even do this with your eyes closed. You could even do it on every stroke as you're sharpening the knife make sure that you're still holding that same angle if you're not practiced enough to lock your wrists and be sure. And then when you're sliding that knife across the stone don't use wrist movement in hand movement and arm movement try to just use your torsofor the movement so that your wrists and elbows are locked. Any slight variation in the angle and you're wasting your time you've got to lock that angle in.

What do you mean "WHEN IT SNUGS". Do you mean when is slides or glides easily? When it "STOPS" on the stone is what needs clearing up as well please

@Hormones Matter It’s something you have to practice a bit to feel. Like I said, it took me time to develop this technique. Basically, you’re dancing the knife on the secondary bevel around where the knife was ground by the shoulder and then raising it until it sits flat on the whole bevel or knife edge. Try lowering the angle until the knife feels like it skips or slips on the stone, and then raise it until it feels like it has stopped or is firm. Another thing I’d suggest is putting sharpie on the edge of the knife and seeing how it is removed when implementing this technique. Then you can see if what you’re feeling is accurate, and it will show you exactly how you’re hitting the edge. You can also look at the knife edge on the stone while practicing this to see if you’ve closed the gap between the edge of the knife and the stone. Out of all the techniques I’ve shown on this channel for finding the angle, I do believe this one is the best and most effective. But it does take time to develop. Hope that helps.
