Find Your Lost/Stolen Phone 📱 From This Government Website #shorts
*What is the Central Equipment Identity Registry (CEIR)?
CEIR website has explained the service as a central system for all network operators to share the list of blacklisted mobile devices. This will allow CEIR to prevent a reported and blocked lost or stolen phone from being used on other mobile networks even if the SIM card in the device is changed.
The service aims to curtail the counterfeit mobile phone market and discourage mobile phone theft, protect consumer interest and facilitate law enforcement authorities for lawful interception.
How does the CEIR service work?
As mentioned, the service works on the basis of the blacklisted list shared by the network operators. This means, once a user has submitted the block device request on the website, the device, according to the website, gets blocked within 24 hours. Once the device gets added to the blacklisted list, it makes other network service providers aware that this particular device with this IMEI number has been blacklisted and that prevents it from being used with other networks too.
How to use this service to block your mobile device
First, file a report with the police and keep a copy of the report and report number handy
Now, get a duplicate SIM card for the lost number as it will be used to receive OTP while filling up the form
Prepare your documents. This includes a copy of the police report, an ID proof and a mobile purchase invoice
Fill out the request registration form for blocking the IMEI of lost/stolen phones and attach the required documents.
Once the form is submitted, a Request ID will be generated. Note this ID as it will be used for checking the status and also unblocking the phone in case it is found.
