A disease that turns people into zombies has been cured. When the successfully treated patients struggle to be reintegrated into society, everything shows that the cure is only the beginning.

You should also see the movie "Maggie" with Arnold Schwarzenegger. Short summary, the government has retaken control after a zombie outbreak. The outbreak is not completely over and there are still societal restrictions and all the damage to the infrastructure from the outbreak are still all around. Arnold's daughter got bitten but it will take several weeks for her to turn. She gets to live with her father while she's still in control and the police keep tabs on her to make sure she dies before completely turning. Surprisingly good movie.

People act like they would behave differently, but this is exactly how most people behave when their loved ones kill. True unconditional love isn't real and once your mom kills your son, brother kills his wife and kids, etc...they are typically abandoned by the family, even after they get treatment for their psychosis. It's extra complicated here because there's a disease involved, but I'd imagine that the taboo is hard wired into our brains.

Maybe its other movies influencing me, but I would think that people who had to survive alone would be most likely to be distrustful of the Cured, well, okay, all are, but those would more likely be the agressive vocal haters, or silent supporters of the punishment or death. People who made close bonds within their groups or had to watch in waning hope, horror and disbelief their loved ones as a zombie, before it became agressive or a slowburn of an infected person coming to terms with their fate, I think, would more likely take it as a miracle assaulted by a huge wave or relief or happiness. People who gave their zombified loved ones permanent death would be crushed and maybe a bit resentful from jealousy. People who run away or never heard from theirs be in a frenzy of being torn between hope and dread, more likely assaulting any modes of communication given in hopes that people previously thought lost would be okay.

The reason people hate the cured is because they associate their existence with murder. It's not a rational decision on their part, so all these questions about "How could you do this" are ultimately meaningless and detract from the main point of the movie: societal reintegration after a horrifying tragedy is difficult. The same general feeling of disgust occurs in people who look at people who they know are ex-cons: these people were once dangerous, a threat to society, and that's ALL that matters. It doesn't register in the mind of people whether or not you did something on purpose, against your will, or were mind-controlled - what matters is that you committed these acts, and nothing will change their mind, because that's all they have the mental capacity to see. This is what trauma does to people.

This movie's scenario reminds me of what's going on today in America, and the rest of the world... if you (were) aren't (infected) vaccinated you should be treated as a second class citizen. So some people who can't take the jab because of compromised immune system, or religion, or just because personal choice are treated like the cured in this movie
@rkhound2472 жыл бұрын
Not the same. The cured can no longer spread the disease. Those who choose not to get vaccines not only serve as a spreaders to everyone, especially those who cannot get vaccines due to age/health issues, but they also serve as incubators for virus variants. This is in addition to the drain on health resources. Think how angry you'd be if your loved one died from unavailable care after a car accident because the ICU was full of those who chose not to be vaccinated.

Worst part is this happens in the middle east mostly in iraq and syria to former child soldiers who fought for ISIS and either defected or were captured once these children who were often forced into it by threats on their life or family members lifes return to their homes they are often ostracized, beaten, or killed and this all stems from the reputation that the Islamic state built for itself its the same here but just its a infection not a islamic terrorist organization

in the real world this is likely to happen too. it’s the same as why racism still exists when we are all the same species and we don’t get to choose our race.

@@ethan17748 I disagree this level of hatred wouldn't happen IRL. Racism in it's purest form is based on ignorance and lack of understanding. The hatred for the cured is just plain stupid because people can easily understand a disease turning people into essentially zombies. The only way this works out where people hate the cured this much is if that universe has never once conceived of zombies in any form of media. Irrelevant as far as the movie is concerned... but on to the racism comment I feel compelled to share my opinion The biggest problem with racism is far to many people put too much stock in their own race. Race should not matter and people should live as individuals but we don't see that. We see racial communities that have persisted even into this modern era where 80% plus of people, at least in western nations, say race shouldn't matter. I will take a moment to acknowledge the value of these communities in the past when racism was significantly more prolific. A time period when collectivism was necessary for minorities to survive. However that collectivism is causing more harm than good in this modern era. In the USA If you look at the Democratic party. They divide themselves in congress and form race based caucus. That is objectively the opposite of ending racism. The end of racism means people put minimum value on race. Yet the political left seems to put maximum value on race, while still preaching for an end to racism. Then there are those in the far-left that argue only white people can be racist, which is in and of itself a racist statement. Where as when you look at the republicans they don't do that. They have their own problems sure but racism, in general, is not one of them. Black and other minority republicans are considered equals to white republicans and not segregated into a caucus. Then there is the fact that republicans have ran out several open racist from their party over the years. Where as the democrats don't do that. They have had many instances of their members saying some very racist things and they don't bat an eye at it. Illhan Omar is a prime example of this. She made anti-semitic comments and the democrats didn't condemn her for it. They just made a general blanket statement against discrimination to save face. The racism problem on the right comes mostly from the far-right and is the classic ignorant based generalization racism we've dealt with for centuries. They are a very small minority and are basically irrelevant when compared to the vast numbers of "neo racist," I'll call them, on the left. I'm referring to the left wing people, both minorities and white, that generalize all white people as racist to some extent. While ignoring racism directed towards white and minority people by other minorities. As well as the left wing white people that think minorities are too stupid or poor to get an ID, even though they are clearly not. Which is one argument that comes up from democrats when discussions over voter ID laws come up. TL:DR Obviously there are many other aspect to racism but the general point is race should be, for the most part, irrelevant. My opinion is that race can matter as a descriptor to describe someone, for romantic relationship preferences, ancestral heritage, and when/if it's medically relevant. For preferences, I'm referring to how people are allowed to be attracted to certain hair color, eye color, height, weight, body proportions, etc. There is also the fact that humans just in general have an in-group bias. So low level social discrimination will be virtually impossible to completely eliminate. So the focus should be eliminating legal discrimination which has been mostly achieved with some work still left to do. Albeit the critical race theory garbage the left is pushing will undo all that progress, because it pushes for race to be considered when making laws. Which should be absurd to anyone that values equality. I put way to much time and effort into typing this.

@@isThreeman politics are dumb. Both sides’ extremes are far out of touch with reality and the moderates don’t make up enough people to make sensible decisions. So you’ve got crime ridden California and crime ridden South Carolina. It doesn’t matter if it’s the left or the right, once you stray past this mixed system of a free market with sufficient support for every citizen, you have dug yourself a hole. The right goes one way (often times unwittingly) and the left goes one way (often times ignorantly). Socialism won’t work by itself, and an a highly unregulated market won’t work either. I’m genuinely impressed by how much politics has dragged me in and spit me right back out because I used to have a lot of interest and now I don’t want to hear a thing.

Also the fact that this movie has a Irish setting makes it unique, most zombie movies are set in the UK or in the US and the fact that it’s set in a country which I can relate to more makes the story that much more compelling.

@@pecadodeorgullo5963 I've always wondered how Ireland would fair if a zombie outbreak was possible. To be honest, there are few countries I would choose to be over it. Yes, we don't have many guns. What we do have is a small population, hundreds of small habitable islands and a mild climate. There are so many hedge rows and walls, especially in rural areas that finding a safe place with farmable land would be easy. The terrain isn't easy for zombies to traverse and the maze of narrow old roads would be easy to fortify/blockade. Of course, it really depends on the type of zombie we are talking about, but most movies depict them fairly slow moving with low intellect
@pecadodeorgullo59632 жыл бұрын
@@BarocaS2 it wouldn't fair well in the Eastern counties since they're flat and densely populated whilst the west I more mountainous and sparsely populated. You'd then have to factor in the UK because they'll probably be helping ireland out since they share a border with each other.

@@pecadodeorgullo5963 I live in wicklow on the East Coast. Its very mountainous. I can think of a lot of places that are hard to access even now lol. As for the UK helping. I really doubt it.
