In this video I am discussing how I found a flat in london as an international student. This was one of the most difficult things I think I have ever done. Watching out for scams and doing your research on neighborhoods can be draining. I detial my path to finding housing that was best for me in this big crazy city. Finding nice flatmates, safe routes to transport and watching out for hidden costs is going to be added to your list of tasks as an international person. I hope that some of these tips helped and I wish all of you on the hunt the best of luck!

2022 in Manchester I stayed at “student accommodation”, it was on of the “good ones” , I was in a 4 rooms 1 bathroom flat anyway it was really bad experience As an international student living with someone from a very different culture, especially when it comes to cooking part the whole apartment would smell like a rotten fish! Sharing one bathroom with 3 different strangers also wasn’t the best Those students accommodations don’t give you a chance to meet the people who are staying with you, they just put you on a random room So this is something I would never do again in future (during my postgraduate degree ) I would recommend sharing a house not student accommodation , meet the flatmates in advance 👍🏻

Props to you for going through all that work to find a place! I wasn't willing to it, so I'm in on-campus housing.

The manky places were probably because your budget doesn't really stretch to Notting Hill. It's very expensive, because it has that name. West London in general is expensive. I had mentioned Clapham, New Cross and Peckham in a previous comment on your video. The folks I know that did MA Sound Arts at LCC lived south. The "near a tube station" thing is good advice, but some people's budget may not stretch to that. Anything within an easy walk of a tube station is going to command a premium. There's other modes of transport in London apart from the tube. I don't live in walking distance of a tube station, but in an inner London borough where there's culture and vibes, which is also important (to me at least). Fulham is somewhere I'm not particularly familiar with. Without meaning to be too controversial, it's probably a good place for a London novice that isn't used to how diverse in terms of racial makeup and incomes some London boroughs can be. Maybe your experience of actually living there is different and you can correct me. In terms of safety, I'm not the best person to offer an opinion on that (6'2 guy with a shaved head approaching middle age). Don't be afraid to get out and explore, even if it is dark by 4pm. London is safe overall. How somewhere looks isn't necessarily a gauge of how safe it is. I'm sure you don't assume that people that look different to you or are of a different social class are necessarily dangerous, but it's worth mentioning to someone new to London I think. I feel for you having to deal with the London rental market. If I had to move out of my current place I don't know if I could. I've lived in the same flat in Hackney for 13 years. I'm lucky that my landlord lives across the street and his son and family live in the flat upstairs. No horrible letting agency involved! Getting acclimatised (acclimated in American English?) to London takes six months. It doesn't really start to make sense until you have that mental map of where one place is relation to another, and a broad brush stroke impression of places.

Look after yourself but don't be afraid. Take a trip from Elephant and Castle down to Peckham Rye or Brixton or East Street Market and just look around. Do it in the daytime at first! On the subject of living south, there's a good national rail service to Elephant and Castle. There's decent places in south London where you'd probably be able to swing a whole flat to yourself for what you pay for a room in Fulham. Lewisham, Nunhead, Crofton Park are all decent. Check areas near the stations where the trains from Elephant and Castle go on the way to Kent. It's a lifestyle choice that might appeal later on.@@katieblake

Oooh, west London, very nice! Incidentally, Hugh Grant also supports Fulham Football Club, as does Lily Allen, Richard Osman (hosts his own quiz show), Michael Jackson (has / had his own statue outside the ground due to his friendship with the club's ex owner), Princess Diana (by extension; she was dating the aforementioned owner's son, they both died in the car crash in Paris).
