Agates are common on the Oregon Coast. But it's not always easy finding big ones. I give you my tips and tricks for how to find agates on Oregon Coast beaches.
Successful rockhounding on the beach takes a bit of effort. But if you're serious about finding agates on the beach, you'll be able to!
In this video I show you my rockhounding trip to the Oregon Coast. I then clean them.
If you're interested in a more detailed video on how to clean agates, please check out my daughter's video here:

Wow! Those are huge! I remember hunting agates on the Oregon coast with my family when I was a kid. My Dad would just walk out to the beach aboUt 20 yards from the tide line, sit down and start digging. He would dig in a 2-3 foot hole and dig down a couple feet. As I remember he pulled 5-6 good agates per hole, then move to a new one. At the time, the activity could only hold my brothers and my attention for a brief time but I remember looking out over the beach from a nearby dune and seeing all the people who had walked by my father, inquired as to what he was doing, then upon seeing his agate booty, proceeded to do the same several yards or so, nearby. Plus all the empty holes dotting the beach made it look like Normandy beach on d-day. It was very amusing to my mother and brothers and I but not to my father as it was a source of jokes at his expense for years after. However the Agates were huge and looked excellent when polished and displayed with light behind them. Great vid.

I felt like I found a kindred spirit, watching you finding the rocks 😊. To me, they make me wonder what was going on with the earth’s formation when they were being made.

WOW!!! Beautiful find Eric. As a kid I really enjoyed looking for rocks. So fun. Love the Agates and how transparent the clear ones are. The Jaspers are really pretty as well. I love the color. It was nice how you showed the size using your ruler.

Thank you Mother Dear. I had a great time on the coast. Inclement weather, but I was geared up for it. Those are the biggest beach agates I've found.

You will. I’m going back again in about a month. I’ll make another video! One of the rocks I found was actually a geode with druzy quart crystals and sagenite. I had it cut and it is beautiful. I should make a video just showing that rock. Maybe I will.

The hardest thing about watching these incredible hunts is when he picks up an agate and I look at the edges of the picture and want him to pick up something else, like the green rock or something.

@@myboringchannel The temptation is great! However my first work of getting back into shape is chasing grandchildren on the beaches! I do have orders in for both the older ones who will probably listen to me about things like sneaker waves, not climbing on logs in the water, and to remember they have to carry out what they just have to have. I do have your videos among the ones I’ve told them to watch for tips. Not going beyond abandon this trip since I have free accommodations with my brother and wife just up the Coos river and Coos Bay. Anything along the Coos river? Then it is off to Central Oregon to see wild Thunder Eggs captured. Hoping it is those eggs that are opened sunny side up and not us as fried.

Well taped, but you need a windbreaker, very noisy. Went on recording rocks before you pick them up!! Thumbs up from Norway
@myboringchannel

Thank you! I know it was very windy on the coast, so not sure how I could have avoided the wind noise. It was very rainy too, so having a lav mic or something out there probably wouldn't have been feasible. High wind and rain are challenging for audio. Anyway, thanks for the positive comment!

Is it possible you could tell me what beach that was? I really want to find some bigs ones, as I'm actually on vacation here at the Coast right now for my last time, and I have until Saturday June 12th to do so, so if you wouldn't mind sharing the beach name that would be lovely, but for privacy reasons you don't have to as well. 😊 Thank you so much this inspired me some more.

If I was there I would take you. But I can’t give the location away. I will tell you I’ve had better luck on the southern Oregon coast for bigger ones than the northern.
