When I started buying comics in the early 70s, Gary Dolgoff was the first ad I ever saw selling back issues. I believe at that time he was located in Queens or Brooklyn. Open any 20 cent DC or Marvel issue and you're bound to see one of his advertisements.

You hit my sweet spot today. DD is and has been since the 70s, my favorite Marvel guy! I went to an early comic convention in the late 70's and purchased a very nice copy of DD #1. When I got home I was told "never" to spend $30 on one comic book again!! I joined the military a few years later and like many other's stories... those comics disappeared! Starting from scratch again trying to build up the DD collection. I be happy to own a copy of the DD#2 you grabbed in the condition you found. A loved comic is what you bought!

Daredevil with Electra would love find that comic. I was out today shopping for comics found a Superman comic that sells on eBay for about $40 and I payed just $2 that was a big find. Plus many other great ones from a Phoniex comic, Few Batman and a complete set of Phoenix Echo for only $10 so I found some goodies and very happy! I love 8.5 graded books. They're usually much cheaper and they present as well as a super-expensive higher grade. It's usually my target grade for under-the-radar or cool cover silver.

DD 168 is absolutely my favorite. I used to buy a lot in that grade 8.5-9.2 and cracked and pressed them! Got 2 9.8’s and number of 9.6’s and 9.4s I have one 9.8 and a 9.6 left. Been buying a bunch of that Miller run lately.

One of the things I really like about your videos Mike is that you go to the effort of creating a sense of the places you visit: you don't just charge straight for the comics, you include sweeping shots of other displays. I liked seeing the toys, all those DVDs for $1 each, so many Hot Wheels cars, the records (the youngsters will wonder how they could ever fit into a USB port) and all the other great stuff. Marvel Premiere #47: I've always liked Bob Layton's art, whether as an inker or a penciller; his Iron Man and Hercules work is lovely. Claremont wrote some very good stories in the obscure Marvel mid-1970s title War Is Hell, definitely worth tracking down and very cheap, as many war books still are. Well done on the Daredevils. I would definitely pay about $200 for #2 in that condition and this is my choice for best comic in the video. #168 is the only one I need in Miller's run (naturally, the most expensive issue of his run); a CGC 8.5 for $175, how could anyone say no? Another great video, thanks for taking us along for ride.

I'm happy you appreciate the location footage. When I'm hunting for treasures, comics or otherwise, I love the sense of exploration which is why I include so much more scenery than just the comics. That's especially true of the huge flea markets because they are just a giant outdoor cabinet of curiosities, and seeing the eclectic mix of items from all eras and parts of the world is where my real passion lies. My run of DD is #16 to #320 and I recall buying #168 off the news stand for 15 pence (50 cents to you guys). Around that Miller run I bought a very low grade DD#1 for £45. I hear your excitement for acquiring DD #2. Good stuff.

I would pay that for the DD#2 in that shape, looks nice despite the defects. Had DD #1-10 CGC , #1 signed by Stan, but sold them to fund my grail FF#1. Still have DD raw #1-13 , which I prefer tbf. Elecktra is a great book at a great price

Loved DD's red & yellow costume. I thought it really popped. Also Matt Murdock is blind and hey he's a lawyer. Not some guy that knows how to sew a complete costume. Much less he's blind too. My first real job when I was almost 11 years old. Was working in one of Milwaukee, WI's very first comic book stores. Named ironically, The Good Old Days. I was a gofer, the janitor/cleaning crew. I also filed old comics, and later learned all about grading comics and even repairing them. I used to work for like 3/4 comics and between $10-$20 cash for like two or three days/evenings. I mainly collected the ASM. But also two titles in the early throgh mid 70's no one was collecting YET. Back issues of DD & the X-Men. When the new X-Men took off and Miller took over on DD. I made a killing selling those back issues and traded for ASM's FF's, Ironman and Capt.A's too. I figured I'd just mention this. I'm sure your well aware of this already. But you might be able to get that DD #2's cover repaired. Or you could get a copy missing pages but with a much better cover intact. You could then either repair it yourself. Or pay someone to replace the cover for you. I've done it years ago. As well as replaced interior pages. Which had ads cut out or the MVS cut out. I repaired a lot of Hulk #180's, #181's and even some ASM's missing MVS. Buy buying coverless collections in the store. Then if I came across a nicer copy missing a pg or it had a ripped pg. I'd use my coverless copies to repair it. Either for the store, a regular customer or for myself. I'd make between $25-$50 a crack for like ten minutes work.

My favorite Daredevil comic cover is Daredevil #297 Last Rites part 1, art by Lee Weeks, which i have in my personal collection since 1991 back when i was in junior high school. Cool cover. Cool! I just picked up a raw (9.4 ish) DD 168 for $200 a few months ago. That book is hard to find in a presentable mid grade, IMO. For me, I either find it totally beat up, or super high grade. It's really weird. The whole run of DD is under-appreciated. One of my favorite stories is DD 7 when he fights Namor. DD's totally outclassed, but manages to hold his own. Really fun read.

The DD for sure. The prices for them were really good. As for the X Men and peoples comments... pay them no heed. You do you. That's the point of collecting. However, it is a really hard goal to reach and it will soon be nigh impossible after 2025 (due to the contract issues), when Marvel gets their hands on the X Men. So, these next couple years will be pretty much the time to show them! As for myself.... still love Excalibur. Have them all (original run) spent under $100 -150 for the entire collection. Have a couple of the extra special editions but I wanted to read the books, and I have to say that the majority of them are really nice books. Still trying to figure out which ones to showcase on the wall...

Hi, reference Daredevil, 13/2/23, possibly you need to look into Wallace Woods contribution to the character. This was also whilst Jack Kirby was drawing. I’m sure Wood was instrumental in the look of Daredevil as we know him today. Marvel Comics were very lucky to have him albeit for a very short time. He was one of the greatest, most influential comic books artists of all time. Love your channel. Clive from England

Thanks! Yes I’m aware of Wally Wood and his work on early DD and I even have several of the books he did covers for. I’m fact my favorite DD cover is #8 (Stilt Man) and it’s an amazing Wood cover. You are right, Marvel was very lucky to have him!

It's been my experience that an 8.5 can often look pretty close to an 9.8 especially if the issue is not spine ticks, and then cost about 5% of the 9.8 grade. Extremely good value for a beautiful book.

Excellent pickups! That is a good price for DD #2 and it does look pretty solid. I think I see #1 more than I see issues #2 or #3. Also a great price on the Marvel Premiere, especially when it's considered "hot" at the moment. The two "regular" issues of DD are easily the best reads and you should really enjoy those. As for #168, you got it at a great price as well, it's just hard for me to rationalize the prices on some of these books I bought off the stands. Makes me feel old!

Ahhh what a fun video! That flea market looks absolutely wild! I’m currently trying to win an auction for DD #2. I want to eventually own all of the issues that feature the classic yellow suit. I believe he only wore it for 6 issues.

Great video! Giving a great impression of the Flea Market. But was DD 102 the first, or at the same time the last last Claremont? I always thought he was overrated as a writer, but then I am not much a fan of his X Men work.. we all have our preferences..

Its not really about what you paid .it's about what its worth and means to you. My most valued book is the first one I ever got that my grandmother gave me when I was 7 I would part with my ASM newstand long before I would sell that book.

Mike, DD1 is maybe the most affordable silver age blue chip. It’s a few down the other on my list, but any thoughts on a deal you’d pull the trigger on?

I absolutely agree and I think it’s held that distinction for a while now. You can get low grade ones for 2-3k which is certainly cheaper than more common blue chip books like Hulk 181. I think when the DD series comes out the book might start to catch up with the other silver and bronze age grails
