I see you watched this video 4 years ago. I’m still new to escaping this movement/organization. When I hear a pastor say “you’re leaving/turning your back on this”(meaning what they consider “truth”), I cringe. I think to myself “yeah, we’re leaving the BS, but NOT God”. We might have a long journey ahead to de-construct our minds from the abuse we’ve endured. But, that doesn’t mean we’re looking to go out and commit every last item on the list of “the works of the flesh”. I’m so tired of upc/apostolic pastors assuming everyone who leaves is going out into “the world” to become sexual deviants that are Alcoholic out to cause trouble with mankind. NO. The majority of us are just trying to make sense of the mess we’ve been in and seeking out the TRUE beauty of God.

I love your videos! I am a 20 year old man who left the UPCI at 18. I had attended for my whole life. It was very traumatic for me to leave but when I studied the Bible for myself I realized how blind I had lived for many years. You were born into it? What causes those that are born and raised upc to leave? The pastor I was under the last 2 years, uses fear to NOT question what’s being preached. But, in almost the same sentence, he’d say “if you don’t like what I’m teaching/preaching, leave”. When folks do leave, he’ll talk about them and why they “supposedly” left. He never really explains why. Like if someone questions things with scripture to back it up. He never really says anything. Just the whole “the world’s pleasures/ideas got ahold of them. They didn’t like the standards(which, are NOT in scripture/biblical). They became carnally minded. They weren’t prayed up/at the alter enough”. The times where I’ve questioned, I’ve gotten backlash. So, I quit questioning. I began to research/study on my own. I’ve done more studying of the word in the last 2 1/2 months than I have in 29 years of being in(I was 20 when I got “in”). The things I’ve learned are very mind blowing. The lies I’ve been taught. The holier than thou attitude I portrayed. It’s disgusting. Anyway, any feedback would be great.

Hello joyinjesus I am so disappointed in you, because you walked away from you previous steadfastness. Most of these folks who leave a godly movement and start a journey to criticize their former group, show just how ignorant and childish they are. I am not part of the UPC, but they are one of the most godly and loving people of God in the USA. The world will be a lot darker without the UPC. The upc has never said salvation is dress code. But the scriptures admonish us to dress in modest way. The may not be perfect, but they are doing the right thing to encourage modest dress. I have noticed many times when sisters walk away from holy convictions they were raised in, their sensitivity becomes dull and they eventually embrace “ big dog sins”.

However a lot of the same things are a part of it. I read Acts 2 and could never understand how known languages would mean stammering tongues. I saw people claim to be Baptized in the Holy Spirit because they spoke in tongues but never had the gifts of the Spirit. They didn't show much love. About 11 years ago I started watching RC Sproul. Great video! In addition to Romans, I would also suggest rereading all the scriptures pushed by the church. Those verses that were mentioned every week. However, reading in context with the surrounding text and keeping in mind the audience to whom it was written. I have found most of what was taught in the building I attended was taken completely out of context.

Hey there, the best bible I have ever owned was the one I bought ten years after I left UPC, the New Living Translation. I wish I had it when I went to Bible school, however, I would have left sooner. The deception often starts with the bible choice. I had a Pastor repeatedly say things like this "the King James is the best translation and the others water down the True Word of God" or "the King James Version is the purest translation" or this one that speaks to pride in the heart "the King James is a higher level reading equivalent to university education". Dear God have mercy. But when I started reading the New Living Translation...I started understanding the word. Understanding what Apostle Paul was writing about...it was a continuation of things addressed in Acts 15 & 21. Now I fully understand why God miraculously provided me a job in 2000 at the Canadian Bible Society where I found out how the bible came to us and how the versions that developed. I was being prepared. I had such hunger for the things of God while in UPC and hunger for more....but could not understand why others did not. The King James Version is like reading with dark sunglasses on.....it will take you years to understand the bible and the gospel and the messiah, and the Apostles decisions when they started the church in a commune style fellowship. They had all things in common, they shared with each other, they divided belongings among each other so that no one suffered lack. All things equal. One of the biggest disappointments I experienced, as a new Christian, was seeing how some would not even give a fellow brother a ride to church because of inconvenience. I wondered then about where was the love of God? When I saw some being malicious to each other.....hurting people on purpose, I wondered but kept going. I am not perfect that is for sure....but I want to fellowship with others of like precious faith, full of mercy, love, kindness, meekness etc. I have no desire for the things of this world; like partying, drunkeness, lust, etc....I just want to please The Messiah and do what he requires of me showing respect towards this great salvation and towards the fact that he has been merciful allowing us as Gentiles to taste of his great grace. I wish you both well on your journey....I have been out since 2003. It is not always easy.....because of the repetitive indoctrination of non-biblical issues, but as you probably have experienced so far, the amount of LOVE you have been feeling from God is like a big warm blanket and you can lean on him in this journey when there will be tough times.....where HE really challenges your faith. One thing I have found as a strength.....worshipping him in honesty at home (not because of the priming of a song leader)....sing a new song, clap your hands to him, shout out in praise, speak about how powerful, majestic, marvellous, magnificent, excellent he is. This is something I found hard to do....prayer sure no problem....read bible sure no problem......but active sincere worship at home was challenging but so so so rewarding in time....and strength comes. Blessings to you both....may God overwhelm you with his presence, love and peace.

The local churches only allow you to attend that church unless the pastor says you can go visit another church, which they will not do. If there is more than one upc in a city, they will not fellowship with the other one. The list goes on and on.

The way he acts when I’ve mentioned visiting 2 other churches(I knew people at both), is practically a BIG NO NO. That, is a very control type issue. It’s always “those other upc/apostolic churches don’t have what we have. Those folks don’t know any better cause they were never taught standards and the like”. So, because they don’t have VERY STRICT rules(yes, rules. Those man-made rules that are NOT biblical or in scripture), they are not really SAVED. Yeah, that’s his and the entire church congregations attitude. They avoid other upc church folks like they’ve got the plague. It’s sad and disgusting. Glad I’m finally leaving after being in 29 years(I was 20 when I got in).

The rules and standards of holiness don't bother me. I was in the Navy and we had dress code uniform code, hair regulations. Liberty restrictions etc. I just keep seeing Jesus separate from God. I see him as the Son in eternity because he is our priest FOREVER after the order of Melchizedek. Forever is , well, forever. Not sure if I believe that God is triune or absolutely one and still praying about it. I also don't see other Christians as "lost" . I whole heartedly believe Acts 2:38 . It's just alot I need to pray about. I also like the Liberty in worship at the Apostolic Church that I don't feel at other churches. I like to run sometimes when the preacher is preaching and I'm notbsure they allow that in other churches. I like the spontaneous flow of The Holy Ghost in the Apostolic church where as in many others churchs they try to control the Holy Ghost. See, I was a backslider for a long time and during that time I went to other churches seeking a better understanding and Then I felt lead in my spirit to go back to the Apostolic church . Now I just have questions about the Apostolic doctrine of the divinity of Christ according to the written word. A little bit about salvation.. I have a difficult time seeing people as not saved if they don't have the baptism of the Holy Ghost.

All too often Apostolic Pentecostals are accused of legalism for holiness standards based on Scripture. There are SOME of us, a small percentage, who mix tradition with doctrine and give us all a bad name. Some of them preach against facial hair, which is a destructive heresy! The Bible does speak against long hair on men and short hair on women (I Cor. 11), but NOWHERE does it forbid facial hair! Below is something regarding "Jesus only." Something that accompanies trinitarian doctrine is baptism using the triune formula. Because Jesus is the name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit, He was telling His disciples to baptize converts in His name when saying it should be done “in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit” (Matt. 28:19). He said name, not names. And these “names” aren’t even names. They are titles. It has been argued that the Greek word translated as “name” here can also mean authority. Though true, a different Greek word is used for every mention of authority in the New Testament, and the word translated as “name” in Matthew 28:19 means a literal name. But even if "name" here means "authority," the apostles still baptized converts in His authority rather than the authority of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Every record of early Christians doing something was in the name/authority of Jesus; never the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. The apostles understood perfectly what Jesus meant when He told them, “All power [authority] is given unto Me in Heaven and in Earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you. . . .” (Matt. 28:18-20) They first taught the Jews to observe what Jesus commanded them, and it was Peter who said, “Be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ” (Acts 2:38). Non-Jews were also “baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus” (Acts 8:16; 19:5). You may have heard that if there's a contradiction between the words of Jesus and the words of men, you should yield to the words of Jesus. Think about this statement. If Matthew 28:19 gives word-for-word instructions on baptism, not only did the apostles disobey what Jesus commanded them and teach others to do the same, their false message was also recorded as doctrine in the Bible (Acts 2:42). There's a heresy being taught that would seem to support this outrageous claim, one that says because Acts is a book of history, it contains no doctrine (thereby making verse 2:42 a lie). To say that is to say you know more than the apostle Paul, who taught the opposite: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” (II Tim. 3:16) Clearly and unambiguously Paul said all Scripture is profitable for doctrine, and if Acts weren’t Scripture, it wouldn’t be in the Bible. It’s ironic that people will single out Acts as a book of history when the four Gospels are books of history as well. Jesus definitely taught doctrine. And one of His quotes is found only in Acts: “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35) Surely no one would say these words don’t apply to anyone today.

They don’t like those that don’t conform. And, if you’re not conforming enough, you’re losing your salvation. If WE(meaning the pastor and other busy bodies)don’t SEE you at the alter enough, we’ll know you’re losing yourself to the world and it’s lusts.

Is doctrine of any importance in selecting a new church? I know community is good, but what about the doctrine that they preach? If we have great community but they preach just call on His Name and you will be saved, how will that get my soul and others to Heaven?. Also how do you apply distinctions in dress for men/women, that( the Bible preaches), to your life now? Isn't it also not about how we feel, or how we want to dress, but about pleasing the God who lived and died for us. I wouldn't mind going to church with t-shirts and jeans. But if I heard that the King of England or the US President or some formal dignity would be there, I'd like to look my very best in their presence. And when it comes to Jesus, I will willingly forget about what pleases me and wear, be, do what pleases Him. If the world comes to church dressed any ol way, pants, makeup, t-shirts, tight shirts for guys, mini-skirts etc. should not we, as blood bought children of God have a distinct look from the them. How will the outside world tell us apart if we look just like the world? People can't see our hearts, they see us externally. Can you explain that to me if you have time, thanks.
@leavingtheupci2395 жыл бұрын
Donai Thanks for commenting 😊. So, if we ARE the church, and God is omnipresent, then that means, if you want to wear your best, then you better do it all the time. And nowhere does the scriptures say that those that follow Jesus should LOOK differently. Jesus never said, look like me, or look differently. He said we shall be known by our fruit, right? Fruit of the spirit: Love Joy Peace Patience Kindness Goodness Faithfulness Gentleness Self-Control. Matthew 7:21, Jesus said, “...not everyone who says to me Lord,Lord... but he that does the will of my Father”. What is the will of the Father? We find that in John 6:40 “This is the will of my Father: that everyone who sees the Son and believes in him will have eternal life, and I will raise him up on the last day” Do you believe in the Son?

I always worshiped God spontaneously from my heart while I was in the UPC and was very blessed by the praise and worship. God is moving in and outside the UPC so please do not condemn the UPC because you pretended to worship to please a Pastor. I fellowship with brethren inside and outside the UPC because the body of Christ is not a particular organization. I know Pastors who are Oneness and Apostolic in faith living in Texas who believe in modesty without the dress code standards of the UPC. If your personal convictions do not line up with the UPC then find a Oneness Apostolic Church that you can agree with. I recently directed a former Trinitarian (who saw the truth about Oneness from my videos and debates against the false Trinity doctrine) to a Pastor I know in Houston because he agreed with the Oneness doctrine but disagreed with the strict standards of the United Pentecostal Church he visited. I suggest that you do the same. Furthermore, we need to respect the personal convictions of our brethren even when they disrespect ours (read Romans 14). Since God is the righteous judge, we need to refrain from judging our brethren in areas not specifically laid out in scripture even if they have wrongly judged us. I believe that most of our brethren in the UPC love God and have strict standards of modesty because their hearts genuinely desire to please God. Therefore I strongly suggest that you stop bad mouthing brethren in the body of Christ and start focusing on edifying the body in love.

@@leavingtheupci239 - Water baptism into Christ Jesus is not a work of men at all. All true believers must be "buried with him (Christ) in baptism wherein we are also risen with him through THE FAITH OF THE WORKING OF GOD who raised him from the dead (Col. 2:12)." True Christian baptism is performed through the faith of the working of God and not a working of man. No Evangelical has ever been able to cite a single early Christian writer who taught that water baptism is not necessary for salvation and for the remission of sins until the later Protestant Reformation. Even the 4th Century Nicene Creed says, "one baptism for the remission of sins." Here I can see that you have been duped into believing a false gospel by listening to the multitudes of non Apostolic ministries rather than to the voice of truth which is always in harmony with the first century apostles of Jesus Christ. I hope you will listen to my debate with an Evangelical apologist on Water Baptism. kzbin.info/www/bejne/b3_NlaCXobxgd68

@@wentworth3721 I can empathize with you in that you may have been hurt and offended by some who have criticized you for leaving a UPC. I have been offended as well. I believe that you are reacting out of being hurt rather than prayerfully allowing the Spirit of God to lead you how to carefully minister to others who may also have been hurt. In my opinion, calling our brothers and sisters "cultic" is certainly offensive, hurtful, and bad mouthing the brethren. Sowing discord among brethren is disdained by the Lord. May the Lord Himself grant you His understanding in all things with love!

Left UPC my self, the mediocre so called pastor called the other UPC churches and banned us from them. Had us deleted from social media contacts in UPC. Now thats a cult. I feel I wasted 25 years. But I thank God I left the false teaching and the $ grabbing pastors, what a shame. Not to mention the pedophile music leader, the pastors son in law. Man made standards will not save you, the standards are used to control you, not edify God. You can look the part but what is truly in your heart?

You just have to change your thinking. I used to be where you are mentally so to speak, i do know and understand where you are coming from. But just listening to you though, i was like hey i used to think like that and hey yep yep i used to think like that too, but then when i stopped trying to please the people in the church and started pleasing God then that is when things changed for me. You know how you said yeah and wear skirts and dresses etc. well were you doing it just to please the people or where you doing it because God was pleased with it. Did you even stop to ask "pray" the Lord what HE wanted and not what pleased your flesh. The flesh is in enmity with God. Of course you feel a sense of freedom by leaving, but the people in the World also have that sense of freedom as well, they are free from the presence of God. To whom much is given much is required. kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJaWl5qFqpuAa9k

You'll never fully recover from the mind control. Go back to a UPC church and visit sometime and examine your own feelings and behavior and you'll see what I mean. Even 20 or 30 years later. Damaged for life. Bad people there.

Many shall fall away from The Faith . Jesus is a One way God . Jesus said, I AM the Way , the Truth and the Life . Stepping out of that way means you will find some other Way . Even the Devil comes as a Angel of light . Deceiving Nations. God will not force anyone to live for him , but the enemy will give you what you want.

travmaster flasher Hi, thanks for stopping by. Could you please expound on what ‘false’ are you referring to? I mean, worded that way without scripture to back up what you’re saying really sounds like the same fear-mongering bs we heard from UPC licensed preachers. We’ve not walked away from Jesus. The United Pentecostal Church does not have a corner on the Holy Spirit or truth. I know we Thought we did, but seriously, please, back up your warnings, travmaster flasher. And, honestly, calling me ‘friend’ means nothing if you’re anonymous. Come out from behind the curtain if you’re truly my ‘friend’....🤷🏼♀️

As a man who is currently in the UPC but have all but literally stopped attending my local church, I personally feel the grievous and unbiblical burdens that are placed on women and have always been very unsettled at the disproportionality and heretical teachings of blind submission to authority, especially as they apply to women. I am an older brother of three beautiful and wonderful sisters, so that may play a big role in why I'm able to sympathize so intensely. I understand that my view point might not be mainstream or common among men in the UPC, because most people, especially men, are just wrapped up in themselves and what directly impacts them, but God has put a love for the veracity of scripture in me for as it applies to all people.

If you were passed the mind control, you wouldn't still be talking about it. Stop now. No point in explaining to society about your experience, because they don't get it anyway. Jesus is just some man's or men's way of trying to relay the FACT that a creator of the world does exist. Get it? Understanding good and bad is all you need. Do good. Do good. The end.

But I want to leave a disrespectful comment and call you bitter and rebellious and Jezebel and say you have all kinds of wrongful motives for making these videos. ;) LOL Galatians is also great for former members of unhealthy churches to read. It addresses the performance trap aspect of such churches. I very much agree with you about not signing any church membership covenants. I wouldn't even consider joining a church that required this.
@CKoinonia16 жыл бұрын
I meant to add that a friend of mine was also helped at first after leaving by reading The Message Bible. While that is just a paraphrase of one person, it is often helpful for former members to get a different translation to read after leaving. Or if they are still too afraid of that, at least get a new KJV Bible where you can read without seeing all your notes from past sermons.

You know what's crazy! Jesus's sacrifice in it's true form! Coming out of UPC is liberating! BUT - It is like being a brand new Christian! It's a new start to a true transformation. Nothing is transformed in UPC except putting on chains, rules, judgement, etc. I was raised in it for 27 years, my husband 10. We left when we had babies because we knew we couldn't keep up the judgement and the errancies of God's Word! And for goodness sake, try reading the NIV version. It can speak understanding so easily! I was raised with KJV only, all others were incorrect and would end you up on the road to hell - how ignorant! Here's a thought. Legalism (rules) brings self-reliance for salvation. It's not about Jesus - it's about oneself. It's sacrilegious. You become your own god. It's all inward affliction and adopting a mindset of strictly following and harshly judging. It's deceptive in a raw and arrogant way, sickening and lacks love. I refused to invite people for years before departing, as I knew it was wrong. I could continue with many thoughts and the cleansing I've experienced. I have one thing to say, "GET OUT!" "DON'T LOOK BACK!" Find Jesus, know His Love and His Power and HIM!! You can't find Him in this UPC mess, you will only judge yourself and others! I think it's important to also know - you will sacrifice yourself to find God. There's no easy way to say it. I am a 4th generation UPC, and my grandfather was a preacher! I lost friends, family and connections all over the state of Florida. We went to youth camp every year and met all these people LIKE us. That number is dwindling more and more. This channel is awesome! I wish I had this info and support when I left. It's like grieving the death of the most important person you know. Here's food for thought. I would go as far to say much of the UPC is counterfeit in the spiritual realm - very scary - I'm talking about demon possession and counterfeit tongues. If you study Paul's writings and the history at the time.. many false "gifts of the spirit" were operating. This is why Paul addresses tongues so specifically. I think the it's better defined as an occult than a cult, but either work. Occult fits better since you seek the mysterious speaking in tongues to PROVE you are saved! There it is again. I have to speak in tongues to show I'm saved - nothing about Jesus or the cross!! I have raised my family to seek God in all things! Love the Lord and others! Understand Salvation, Grace and Justification!! (Romans!!) Since the UPC is all about self-religion, I close with this one thought. "Set Yourself Free!" You will never regret it, but there will be pain! Bask in the true LOVE of God! I would love to join the FaceBook Group if available.
