@ what is the reasoning behind that. I’m Protestant and thought about converting but don’t understand why I wouldn’t be welcome when every other faith accepts converts with open arms

@@SuperMattyice12 Unlike Orthodox Judaism, Reform and Conservative Judaism don’t follow Jewish law, so naturally, their conversions don’t meet the criteria laid out by Jewish legal codes. Here’s an analogy: There’s a process to become a US citizen. If you totally ignore the guidelines of the process, the government won’t accept you as a citizen. Similarly, if a non-Jew completely ignores the guidelines of the conversion process, we won’t accept them.

Because we don't believe we are better than everyone else , we all have our part to play in this world. If the Lord made you a Cristian, then that's where he needs you . If someone decides that they want to serve him from our tradition, then we want it to be because that's what the person truly feels, not just a spur of the moment thing. Finally, as orthodox Jews our practices are more complicated than other denominations and we do things very differently , so if someone doesn't convert through us than they are missing a lot of the fundamentals that they need to truly be part of the community and it's better for everyone involved if they just join the community that they did the conversion with so that everyone is on the same page .Also , non orthadox Jews who decide to become orthodox have to do a lot of studying and mentoring , not because we are standoffish but because we are so different and there is a lot to learn.
