I chanced upon a pile of dirt and rubble on the side of the road that had a bunch of interesting minerals in them.

So cool! I have several varieties but none like this. I was eagerly waiting to see you pull out a UV flashlight. I would have been so excited to find those scapolites, even the mica books would make me smile. Awesome video!

Definitely a happy little accident! I really liked all the specimens! I have collected some small mica books here in Manitoba, super cool colors coming off of them. Great video, Aidan!

Fascinating! I’m in awe at how easily you can find and identify the stones. And to think that they were all pushed to the side as if they were rubble.

Nice fresh xls, they’re so seldom lustrous. Now you need to figure out where they came from!

Thanks, yeah I did some exploring around there and I think I maybe narrowed down the roadcut the material it came from, hopefully next year I will make it back and check it out again.

@anythinganywhere05 I mean, if you know where to look, the Norland and Minden areas of Ontario have multiple scapolite occurrences.

Red apatite looks so similar. How to know the difference?
@Ontario_Rockhound
@Ontario_Rockhound 2 ай бұрын
From scapolite? The crystal structure is the big give away, apatite is hexagonal so it will have a hexagonal cross section, scapolite is tretragonal so the cross section will show a 4 sided shape.
