'A Porky Prime Cut' is the message mastering engineer George Peckham put on his records. He worked on lots of Beatles solo records, Led Zeppelin, Genesis, Black Sabbath etc.

'That's handy Harry, stick it in the oven' is from an old Bird's Eye pizza advert. It's on KZbin, with comments saying that people still use that phrase

I’ve seen all sorts of scribbles in the run offs. I reckon it’s just bored guys in the record pressers. My dad used to say ‘that’s handy harry, stick it in the oven’ if something was good

The messages are from George "Porky" Peckham, an English record engineer, he used humorous or cryptic message, often referencing the artist or the record's lyrics. Sometimes there is a small drawing or a cartoon. The messages are often signed “Porky,” or “A Porky Prime Cut.” Other attributions include “Delta Pork,” “Pecko's Delta,” “Porky Pecko,” “Pecko Duck,” and many, many other weird iterations.

An explanation was given by Martin about the "Little Bird's pecking" etching after a fan asked him in a letter: "These are our studio nicknames and sayings. Little Bird is the two track machine and Big Bird is the 16 track machine. Little bird's pecking means that the two track is running and little bird's taken the worm means that a signal has shown that it is recording from the 16 track (Big Bird). Very stupid isn’t it (Andy's idea)." Additionally, more references to the "little bird" can be heard in the middle part of the song "Shouldn't Have Done That", if you play the song backwards. It reveals Martin telling a children story featuring a "little big" and a "big bird" that are pecking. It's easier to hear from the front left and right channels of the 5.1 mix

I've been a DM fan since about 1991 with Violator back when I was in Middle School here in the US. I owned everything on first cassettes and then CDs. It took me until yesterday to finally get a 33 of Violator and I'm going to get Songs of Faith and Devotion as well on vinyl as those two are my favorite albums and I cannot afford to collect everything back I used to have on cassette and CD. I even lost those after a house fire several years ago. I've wondered where they sell 7" sets of like Violator is that all the singles as they were released with Bsides or no just album versions?

The reason you cannot find anything on the Meaning Of Love is due to the fact that , that is a late pressing...get one earlier pressing and ther will be engravings.. that goes for all MUTE pressigns ..and ther are even different engravings on different issues of pressings of the same title single....depending on late or early pressing...This has no connection to the lad's in dM ...only related to pressing staff and in some rare cases Danile Miller...as per MUTE releses in genereal...

The Vinyl Detective books start with a murder case called Written In Dead Wax. I mean I’m not saying you could also solve a murder mystery using DM these messages but…..

We used to common this in high-school. O get some Sads. Most of my DM 45’s were damaged in a plumbing flood. Toast Hawaii became a Label under Fletch about 20 years later. Pretty interesting.

in SOFAD cd there is a secret picture collage underneath the plastic black cd holder that you need to remove, and it rightfully says in french "ci dessous"

That’s so funny how there was NO message on “The Meaning of Love” because in the song itself he couldn’t figure it out, either 🤷🏻 🤔 😂😂😂

I'm not a fan of these scratchings. They give me an impression that the person cutting them feels so important that they have to write something witty intentionally or to look funny. The music is what counts. Don't try to look smart at the musicians' expense. Your job is to produce the record without adding anything of your own when you had zero to contribute in the making of it.
