Finding Lat and Long and Township and Range on a 7.5 minute USGS quad

Hello i have a question finding latitude i found it quite easy but as for longitude doesnt it as you go up in latitude the same degree becomes less distance so if you are basing your longitude on the creek based on the longitude of baseline down its not correct right ? Or at such small distances the difference is insignificant?
