As shitty as it sounds and is, sometimes as parents you have to agree to things that you never thought that you would do in order to keep some kind of relationship with your child. And let them learn from experience since some teens aren't willing to listen. Maybe she has done /currently does rebellious things and if he really tries to prevent her, she would keep running to him and eventually just disappear with him never speaking or seeing anyone in her family again or for many years. I think that she is considered legal or very close to it in the UK..she would just marry him anyways if she wanted to.. There are unmentioned reasons why she was living with her sister and children in a tiny flat instead of parents or adult guardians. Either her home life was crappy and maybe terrible due to her parent (s) (maybe they didn't care) or she was just a "problem child" who They couldn't get to behave and follow rules. I feel like both... I think she doesn't really want to marry him, I think she wants someone to care enough about her to stop her. My daughter is married and has a newborn at 22, and her dad just had her brother a month after his granddaughter was born. So, he's got to start with all that child support all over again.

A few yrs back my ex's fam and myself had to cater a shotgun wedding for 2 teens they were like 15 or 16, and it was the most depressing thing I ever witnessed. It took place on a wenesday afternoon, neither bride or groom wanted to marry, but were forced cause The brides fam were super religious. Their church refused for her to be allowed to marry inside since she conceived a child out of wed lock, so their ceremony was in the lawn next to the church parking lot(its was like some time in feb.) Just so they could say they were technically on the church property. Once they got to our catering hall, they didnt even allow decorations, the bride cried hysterically the while time while a group of her friends tried to console her. The groom and his friends talked on the other side of the room that his life was over. The brides parents were trying to make sure none of the teens got to close to each other if they tried dancing with each other. And the the grand resistance the grooms mothers comes stumbling in drunk as a skunk(alcohol was not allowed at the wedding since most of the ppl were way under the legal age) so she was carrying a bottle of vodka around in her purse, and made this HUGE seems screaming and crying how her life was over and she was to young and pretty to be a grandma, she was well into her 40s that's a normal age to be a grandma I made my mom one when she was 42 I was 22. And she was not pretty at all specially when she opened her mouth to talk and all that selfish bullshit came flying out of it. Then she started trying to get the brides father (who is married and his wife was there) to go in the bathroom with her to fuck, so a huge argument broke out there. And we eventually have to escort her out, but trust me she didnt leave easily or quietly. She was kicking and screaming that her son was horrible for doing this to her and she hate the now bride and groom for making her feel old and ruining her life. Cake time was insane they didnt even wanna stand next to each other and every pic the bride is hysterically crying in, while the groom u could tell totally didnt wanna be there either. Her parents didnt try to console her at all, all they said was see this is why you should of waited to have sex, and that this was an embarrassment to their family. At the end of this 2 hr "wedding" myself and the other employees just looked at each other like wtf did we just witness!?

@Shannon I don't believe her issue is that it's not "the American way". I think she just has concerns for all teens European, Eastern, African, Middle Eastern and even from the United States. And for the most part I agree with her. Cultures vary, but biology doesn't. Edit: I didn't even know the age of consent here in RSA (it's 17) before today, but I know that 17 year olds, and perhaps younger are getting it on with grown men.
