I visited Tuol Sleng prison and the killing fields yesterday. While in the prison I came across the photo of Kerry and listened to a part of your testimony. It moved me to tears. When I got back to my hotel I looked Kerry up to learn more of his story and in the process found your channel. The way you are sharing your family's and so many others stories is incredible. I'm so sorry for all of the loss you have experienced and wish all of you the best for the future ❤

I cried buckets. Watched twice, cried the second time too. I’m used to Rachel’s tears, have cried a few tears with Rob on occasion, but when Declan’s tears were dripping to the ground during that Tuk Tuk ride and ever the comedian Ivan was breaking down, I lost it. This was hard to watch, but part of your family’s story. Love you guys and miss you! Hope our paths will cross again in the future. Great editing Rachel ❤️❤️

Seeing the little 1yr old victim pic near the killing tree is what got me to really let loose return the tears! My heart goes out to all the victims and to your family for all the heartbreak you have experienced in your family. Amazing job at showing and telling the story. I've watched this twice today - extremely moving and I could feel your brother in my own room. Kerry is alive today and has been through your memory and ever forward with your sons. The khmer rouge is also alive and well, and good will be fighting them till man is no longer a memory. Your forgiveness (attempt) is the sharp blade of righteousness - those in hell still fell this punishment. I have so much joy watching your family grow. This is the laying down of foundations that growth will last well beyond you and I, well beyond a digital age and children will stand on this and never understand the firmness of their ground. Thank you for sharing this story with us. As difficult as it obviously was for you to relive this horrific story, it is important for the world to never forget and to ensure that evil never again rises up. It was difficult to watch this but just imagining the horrors that all those that were tortured and murdered endured is unimaginable. You guys do a great job in telling the history of many places that you visit, but this story is so very special and must have been very difficult for you to relive. As a wise man once said a long time ago “All that is needed for evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing” Let’s hope that the good people are vigilant and step up to ensure that evil never again succeeds.

Oh man. What a watch that was. 😢😢 Such a sad time of history in this world and what fellow man can do to each other. Thanks for sharing your part of this story with the world. This deserves a prime time spot on tv, and more subscribers to your channel. Looks like it really hit home to all your boys at the end there. I’m sure they will never forget this Cambodia experience, both the good and bad parts. No schooling can set you up for how they are living at present. Not many would give a bundle of cash to a complete stranger like that. But the tour must of had a real effect on Finn for him to generously do that of free well. Seeing Declan and Ivan so upset goes to show that it really did get to them as well. You as parents are a credit to your three boys. To Rob and Rachel I’m sure sharing this experience may some how help in the healing process even if it is many years later. I know the pain will never fully go away and I am sure all who have viewed this appreciate that fact. I’m glad that as a family you were able to share this experience together and share all your thoughts and feelings with each other. Top effort by you all and glad you got the copy-write issues sorted.

Thank you for your lovely comment. We were so impressed with how the boys handled themselves in Cambodia. One of the reasons we had held back from bringing them here until now was to allow them the maturity to process the experience. Kerry's plight is of course a story they grew up with but to visit Tuol Sleng prison and the horrors of the killing fields is sobering to say the least. The boys were incredibly touched to meet Sam Rithy and hear first hand from a survivor.

thank you, was very moving... I started watching The Cruising Kiwi's a few years ago after I watched Brother No 1. I visited Tuol Sleng back in 1998. There were hardly any tourists then. I was walking around Pnom Pen one morning and recognized Tuol Sleng from pictures. Nobody there. I remember walking around on my own. Later I went to the killing fields. Again nobody there. There were 2 small kids playing with a cow. That night I went to a restaurant. There were tables around a pool. The pool was full with crocodiles!

Hi all...what a fascinating journey this is! After you mentioned that your brother used the name Michael Lebowitz as a reference within his forced confessions, I searched the name and came up with something kind of interesting. Michael Lebowitz was an American/Canadian professor who embraced Marxism and Communism. He was gaining prominence in North America at that time. He wrote many papers and books on the benefits of Marxist/socialist economics. He was teaching at Simon Frazier University in British Columbia in the late 70's when Kerry was in Cambodia, where he specialized in teaching Economic Marxism Also of note, in the early 60's, Lebowtz was invited to co-chair the economics workshop for the 1962 Port Huron meeting of the Students for a Democratic Society (SDS), which produced the famous Port Huron Statement of SDS. This group espoused Socialist/Marxist industrialist ideologies that they promoted to spread though the United States and Canada. As a matter of fact, Tom Hayden , who was one of the founding members of the Port Huron/SDS group. Hayden was best known for his role as an anti-war, civil rights, and intellectual activist in the 1960s, authoring the Port Huron Statement and he eventually ended up standing trial in the Chicago Seven case (look this up...very interesting). Even more intriguing however was that he had married actress Jane Fonda. With her support, he ran for political office and was eventually elected to the California Senate. He then ran for Governor of California but lost. Additionally, during the 1960s, Fonda was well known here in the States for engaging in political activism in opposition to the Vietnam War. Fonda's visits to France brought her into contact with leftist French intellectuals who were opposed to war, an experience that she later characterized as "small-c communism". In the shadows, both she and Hayden staunch Socialist/Marxists. Since the Khmer Rouge were Communists, they may have known who Jane Fonda was. That all said, and this may be a far stretch, but perhaps Kerry was somehow familiar with Lebowitz's ideology, though his own past reading history and used his name in an attempt to persuade, or to "send a signal" to the Khmer Rogue that he was "favorable to Marxist ideologies" as a ploy to possibly save himself. I don't mean to imply that Kerry was Communist, but many people of his age would have been familiar with the conflicts in SE Asia at that time. If Kerry was aware of these conflicts, and had at some point read some of Lebowitz's writings, maybe he thought that by using his name, the Khmer Rouge might research who Lebowitz was for themselves and perhaps conclude that Kerry shared similar political beliefs that they did. Even if Kerry wasn't Communist, as the old saying goes, "when in Rome, do as a Roman does", especially if it's a matter of total survival. In this case, perhaps his attempt failed to get the desired outcome. Just a thought, for what it's worth. Anyway, as always, I enjoy your adventures and always look forward to sailing along with your voyage! I've felt such a depth of sorrow for you and your family having to experience what you all have because of such incomprehensible evil. What they did to your brother and to so many of their own people, to innocent children, defies understanding. How all people, equipped with two hands, and two feet, are able to be good, and yet, also so depraved, is unfathomable. Having visited Tuol Sleng Prison and the killing fields in 2006 with my husband, I thought I was prepared with watch this and “go there” again - but I still cried and grieved for the senseless loss of life, just like I did when we visited. Maybe even more so this time, as it felt more personal. What extraordinary courage (and humor) Kerry showed in his confession. And so touching to see your sons all so deeply moved by the visit. Hey guys. Having seen "Brother Number One", it was still as heart rending hearing the story here again. And sharing it with Finn, Declan and Ivan too. It was actually very moving to see the name "Foxy Lady" there too, with that being the name of my boat when I bought it. Also that you shared the story on this boat with Neil and Joy Adam's when you visited them on board up at Tiritirimatangi. It makes me feel quite connected. I don't blame you for loosing it at the "Killing Tree". I went to the Holocaust Museum in Jerusalem. I was pretty OK until I went into the children's memorial. I was totally wrecked!! I hope this will be at least be a little healing for you all. We'll done for being brave enough to share the story and allowing yourselves to be vulnerable in the sharing. That was such a special moment between Rob and the prison survivor too.
