La Perla is one of our favorite restaurants in Playa Del Carmen. 38th Street is a beautiful street with great restaurants to choose from. It’s a must “do” when visiting PDC.

Thank you for your comment. We have experimented with this new format to highlight good restaurants in Playa Del Carmen. La Perla Pixan Cuisine and Mezcal Store has been around for about a decade and has consistent quality meals and is always a good place to go out to in Playa Del Carmen.

Once again you have outdone yourself. We here in Cozumel have been following you for 12 years now. Thank you for so many recommendations. Silvia and Greg

I haven't been to Playa Del Carmen in 20 years. But I still remember a restaurant called The Blue Lobster. I wonder if it's still open.

It closed only about a short time ago. It did last for a long time on 12th Street. It is not a Tulum looking restaurant.

How about asking a bus or taxi driver where they go to eat....always worked for me

If you did that in Playa you will get the same place from everyone, El Fogon. It is the most recommended, but not the best by far. People recommend it because it is easy to get to, consistent, used to tourists, and popular tacos and tortas type of place. By Mexican standards it not that good, but it works for first timers.

The service here was poor. Went a few times. Can do better for food for the price too.

Finding REAL MEXICAN food in Playa Del Carmen is like finding michelin dishes in a food court.

How is it that mezcal is the poor cousin, when mezcal is more hardeous,and longer process,,,,tequila is the lesser of the 2..🤣😂😆

We wish we had explained more in the video this. Normally mezcal was made by local farmers and made in small batches. It was not exported and not really known outside of Mexico for years. It was considered the alcohol of the working-class farmers. Tequila has benefited by decades of promotion and advertising, so the image is one of the most recognized products of Mexico. Mezcal has changed from an obscure local alcohol to one that people respect the artisanal aspect of it and it is now sought after.

@@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencom Recently spent a few days in the countryside of Oaxaca (the state). Mezcal is the overall family of distilled spirit from Agave-like plants - there are dozens of different cultivars grown, mashed, and distilled in Oaxaca alone. Tequila is very narrow sliver of Mezcal made from a specific type of Agave - all Tequila is Mezcal, but very few Mezcals are Tequilas. From a commercial production perspective, finished Tequila is very consistent - the color, taste, and alcohol content do not vary between batches; and can be made in very large quantities which makes it easy to export. Mezcal is a small family farm process made in small batches using very traditional methods and can therefore vary widely making it difficult to distribute and market. BTW - while the City of Oaxaca is indeed magical, the surrounding state offers an exception view into Mexico. So much is still done the way it's been done for 100's of years - pottery, weaving, carvings, and of course Mezcal.

Curioso what the price is like
@EverythingPlayaDelCarmencom6 ай бұрын
Since the menu is a little more complex and gathered from different areas is it around 300 plus pesos per main course. So maybe plan around 900 pesos per person. It depends on the drinks as well, but this is a general price guide.

Plyaya is over priced and made for the rich not the best for local foods

Playa is more expensive than most of Mexico. We nicknamed it the Monaco of Mexico because it is like a city state that is different from the other parts. But that does mean you get some chefs that open good fusion restaurants or modern takes on traditional Mexican recipes. Other parts of Mexico do have greater food cultures, the journey of Playa Del Carmen is just beginning, and we will have to see how the food culture develops. We do have another video about a local food tour where we go around the south end of Playa and have very inexpensive meals. So, there are options in Playa.
