To find theta couldn't you have just used sin(theta) instead of cos(alpha) in the equation?

I don't understand something:why do we need a normal vector?isn't the angle between a line and a plane,the angle between the direction vector of the line and ANY VECTOR in the plane?

We dont know any vectors that are inside the plane. But we can easily tell its normal vector from the equation of the plane.
