It's official! I'm in love with Cambodian food. After taking a food tour of Phnom Penh, Cambodia I discovered that local Khmer food is fantastic. It's not as popular as Vietnamese or Thai food, but the Cambodians have many traditional dishes that are amazing - you just have to know where to go. We did a tour with Lost Plate Tours and were taken to off the beaten path restaurants and street food stands where we stuffed our faces with so much fresh and tasty food - noodle soups, sweet umami pork, BBQ ribs, desserts, plus drinking beers in the tuk tuk between locations! It's basically the best time ever.

Khmer Food (Mahoab Khmer or Aahaa Khmer / Food Khmer in local) was wiped out during Pol Pot era including the human resources. Politics aside. Glad the traditional Khmer food is coming back for the visitors to enjoy. I still have vivid memories about my grandma's catering the high-end wedding back in the 60s. Great food tours there. "If it does not move, just eat it". Chills from Minnesota!

Good to learn the history of red and green curry! I applaud you for being adventurous with the traditional, old Khmer dishes because the flavors can be a bit foreign to a Westerner’s palette. It really helps too that you know what the ingredients are before all the spices and herbs are combined.

I went by three times there last month but it was closed because of Chinese New Year. 😢 We also went to the restaurant with the stewed pork place on street 63 and street 42. Their food was good but the place is not very clean. Guys, there’s some really good food at One More Restaurant. We went to Mealea and Malis (Phnom Penh location) and the food sucked big time. It was disappointing because Malis in Siem Reap was so so good from main course to dessert.
