Finding the Details in Nature is a fundamental part of being a nature photographer as it's these little details that often make the difference between going home with images to be proud of, and going home with nothing. I always have the same broad plan of action. Go out with the camera, expect nothing and happily take whatever nature dishes out. In this video I head to a little woodland with a pebbly beach on my way to Orkney in Scotland and find three nice images to add to my collection.

I like the last three shots, especially the pebbles. The last one you did shows how the average person would surely walk on by and not see the shot. Someone once told my wife and I, “I wish I could see the world through your eyes”. Much like you do. Thanks for sharing.

You find the nicest places to walk! I realy liked the third image. So many contrasts - colour, tone, form, land vs marine... The first close up sequence as you presented the result - some of those shapes could have been lifted from Heironymus Bosch. Creepy!

I’m new to your channel, I’m just now seeing this video is a year old but I watched another earlier(not sure how hold that one was) but it was similar to this one. Anyways I’d like to say I really enjoy these kind of videos, how you just film your journey but give tips along the way. It’s much different than the videos of people just sitting in front of the camera giving tips. Though I do like those kinds of videos as well sometimes but these videos you do give a much different well deserved perspective. I’m a hands on learning and I feel these kind of videos are the closed you can get to hands on learning through a video. Thank you.

"Two weeks at f/16" Ha! I love it. Great images, as always, Simon. If you've taught us anything (and you've taught us a lot) it's to be very intentional and take the time to really see what we're looking at. I usually have a bit too much caffeine onboard for that, but will struggle onward. (Oh, and I would have moved those two pebbles...)

Lovely images. Shame that the voices in your head wouldn't reveal the location of that original bracken shot! My own voices shout at me to "Stop! Turn around!" when I drive/walk past something that my eye registers and (one of the other voices?) convinces me that I can "go back some other time". Love the beach shots. I so desperately wish that I might live close to such a place at least once in my lifetime. And whilst I can still lug some of the gear. There's a ton of detail in that rowan+bladderwrack shot - note to self: get the "big computer" fixed and practise with focus-stacking. Thanks for taking us along with you. And thanks, too, to whoever might have been patiently waiting whilst you showed us these details.

The handheld dragonfly was gorgeous. I haven't been out at all for the last couple of weeks (apart from a trip to outpatients for an appointment on Friday) as I managed to break a bone in my ankle. I must try and get out of the flat for some exercise to strengthen my leg as I'm going stir crazy. really looking forward to the Orkney video(s) just to see if you take similar images to the ones I took (doubt it very much!) take care Simon and thank you for taking the time and effort to produce these fascinating, informative and beautiful videos.
