VINCE GOES FISHING

5 ай бұрын

Yesterday was Super Bowl Sunday. I met up with a new fishing buddy Jon Chiarappa and we pounded the sand on foot for 6 miles. After a long hard unproductive day of searching, finally Jon pointed out some structure and found the fish for us. This was a bit humbling for me, but goes to show, you never know where the perch might be hiding at the moment. This bite happened during an outgoing high tide, lasted about 20 minutes, and then they were gone. It was great meeting you, and fishing with you Jon! Till next time! Fish on!
Finally, one question I want to ask at the end of every episode of VGF is this: “Whatever you are going through in your life right now, what values of yours are not being fulfilled, and what you would like to do differently in an attempt to fulfill those values?” You can find a list of human values to help you identify which ones are up for you now, right here: values.VINCEGOESFISHING.com

Your description of feeding patterns and sand bars is excellent -- best I ever heard.

Wow! 7 miles, with waders, and fan casting every 30-40 yards: that must be near a 5-6+ hour venture?? A super great effort! You mentioned great surf perch fishing and water tips!! Is that the sort of effort it takes to be successful in surf perch fishing? Or, alternatively, where beaches are drivable, just drive the beach and locate an area where's there's a hot bite???

It doesn't always take this much effort. Another strategy is to just look for the biggest hole on the beach, stay put, keep your line in the water, and wait for the fish to come through. This is what the commercial perch fishermen do and it tends to produce well. I'm usually feeling a little too hyperactive to stay put in one place, so I like to stay mobile, fish the whole beach, and hunt them down on foot. I'm like a dog, I need to run. I prefer fishing the whole beach on foot, rather than driving because it gives me the ability to do as you said, fan cast the whole beach, but I'm grateful to hitch a ride to the end of the beach when someone offers me a lift. On this day, there were not a whole lot of really obvious holes on the beach so we kept walking to the deepest part of the beach which typically produces fish, and then we fished our way back and found these few fish in a spot that I didn't even think looked all that promising. Ya never know. Those fish were on the move tho. They bit for 20 minutes and then disappeared. Another thing I want to add is this... If I fish Oceano and it doesn't go off, then the next day I'll try a completely different area. Maybe north Pismo, or Morro Bay Sand Spit, or Oso Flaco... Once I get on a hot bite, I'll go back and fish that same beach again and again until I can't find them anymore. Most people rely on intel from other fishermen; "Where are they biting right now?" but, I have too much fun searching for them on my own, so I'd rather plug my ears and go hunting. Everyone has their own preferred style. Mine just happens to be relatively intensive. But ya, if I'm in the mood to take it easy, then I'll post up in the best-looking spot and just wait for the perch to come to me.

BTW it turned out to be 5.7 miles. Just to be fair.

That's still lots of walking in sand with waders; But that's what it takes some-most times?@@VINCEGOESFISHING

@@ronmodafferi8202 Sometimes... Depends on which beach/spot and how you access it.
