Love your videos! I have a few questions, what canoe is that, do you have a list of all the gear you used, and did you fit it all in one pack only?
@MaddyTheGoose7 жыл бұрын
The boat is a Souris River Prospector which I really like a lot. As for the gear, I do have some lists. This link is pretty darn close to what I brought on this trip www.thegearloft.com/list/maddythegoose/solo-canoe-tripper-with-a-dog. Here's an updated list of what I bring with me nowadays www.thegearloft.com/list/maddythegoose/light-solo. It comes in at 45lbs but the base pack weight, not including food, water and items for filming and my dog, it comes in at just under 25lbs. The last list given here is my live list and I keep it up-to-date. And yes, all my gear fits into a single pack.

Watching your portage exertions makes me appreciate our flat coastal Florida canoe trails. In many years I never had to portage yet. I think I even prefer 'gators and mosquitos to toting that load. With no portages, I can use a 19 foot grumman freight canoe, with a small motor for adverse coastal winds. That allows me to carry some comfort items, like a folding chair, demon rum, and my banjo. I'd sure hate to have to carry all that very far. I also often have to carry water, like in the 'Glades, where fresh water is hard to find.

A double carry is when you split your load into two trips. You carry pne half down the trail, leave it, go back, then carry the second half. For longer trails or portages you can carry the first load part way, then sort of leap-frog your loads so as to not leave one behind too long in case of it growing legs.

He problably tried it himself, either using a electrical stove 50c or as low as it gets, and leaving the door open a few centimeters. Or a home food food dehydrator. It's real nice and simple, u can dry pretty much anything. Weight is higly reduced aswel as volume. This with teast intact!

That is an epic single carry brother!?! Hope that doesn't come back to haunt you down the road with 130lbs of greenhorn carry over that terrain (spend the first 40 years trying to kill ourselves, the next 40 trying to stay alive). Ah the arrogance of youth brings back memories. Would recommend hardening to that load with double carries for purposes of conditioning and safety, then single carries as the back gets lighter. This is my second go around on this trip with you and one of the best vlogs I've seen on canoeing. Well done.

Thanks for interesting and entertaining videos, a combination not always seen. I find that I learn as much from responses as the video itself. So, it appears that you seem to not respond to a lot of questions. Why is that?
@troygaylord58447 жыл бұрын
Thanks for writing Steve. Why I don't always get back to comments is a good question and I'm glad you asked. I have a wide range of varied interests and often bounce between them. For instance, lately I've been consumed with guitar and skateboarding. To be honest I always plan on getting back to the comments and more videos but often feel that if I can't do it 100% I just won't do it at all, this is something I'm working on. Having said that, I have a couple of videos in the wings right now and just need to prioritize my time to finish editing them. I've been considering releasing other videos that aren't directly related to my outdoor ones so my video releases would remain more consistent but just more varied content from Arduino micro-controllers to health and meditation... we'll see. I really appreciate your comment and it has spurred me on to get back to it. Hopefully you'll be seeing a new video and responses before long. Thanks again Steve, all the best my friend.

@MaddyTheGoose9 жыл бұрын
Aero man I park my car at the lots provided at any of the entry points I start at. The important thing is to not leave anything in it and do things like leave the glove compartment open and such so if anyone was thinking about breaking in they'll see there's nothing of value.

I am always excited to watch your journeys , I feel for ya hauling all that weight across the portages. And you always eat good too. Now are the portages normally pretty rough that you couldn't use dolly wheels to make them a little easier ?

@chucks970 Heavy indeed, it contained my regular gear which you can see on the MaddyTheGoose website in the Gear section. On top of that I had all of Maddy's stuff including 6+lbs of dog food, her little sleeping bag, 2 1/2 pounds of batteries, two cameras, tripod, etc...so it all adds up. I also miscalculated on the food, too much bannock, and a miscalculation with an eight day trip can get costly. I corrected the food later in the trip. That's also the full, weight including the water I carry.
