I found over the years that every shell induced powder drop has a variance depending on the powder. Drum measures are the worst, they don't like many powders. The best results I hadwas with the Lee Auto Disc measure. Quick to set up, very consistent due to the holes, very quick to empty and cheap. That is why I have one on every press head I own. Also the powder through die flares the case while charging powder. You can save one die space on your press head for something else

I had this problem on on my Dillon 650 loading .223 I had to slow down (big cartridge little neck for the powder to fall into) I polished the internals of the powder measure/die & put a rubber band on the return spring of the powder measure. After all those ^ perfect every time

When you have a bullet feeder and everything is running smooth on a 650, I have a pace of around 1500 rounds of 38spec an hour (measuring the time to drop 10 rounds in the bin). Usually have 10 pre-filled primer pickup tubes. I sure hope I can keep the at least the same pace on this press, once I get it setup on my bench.

See if a Mark 7 powder measure will work, I reload about 2500 rds an hour and the powder variation is approx. +/- 0.2 gr

Speed is important. You may also consider coating the inside of the drop tube and die with powdered graphite. A little goes a long way and it helps things smooth out in a slippery and non static way.

This is the way. I did this after someone on a reloading discord suggested it and wow did it make a huge difference in how smoothly the drum rotates.

I was having this issue with my new x-10 and I had 4 squibs in 300 rounds, I replaced the unique I was using with bullseye, problems went away immediately. Small charges of fine grained powder seems to make it all better.

Jim, have you had trouble with your case's indexing on the shell plate? I have checked everything called Frankfurt They're telling me I need to get a brass linear motion bearing. Have you heard of this?

Different types of powders will dispense different amounts. Your speed didn't appear that fast to make a difference. Your camera and editing skills are perfect !

Ive only used one powder so far Hogdgon CFE Pistol. The problem this time was definitely do to the speed I was engaging the powder dropper. I will be using a different powder in the future and will see how it differs.

Something else to think about, most electronic scales nowadays have at least a +or- .1 of a grain accuracy variance so a reading of 5.0, 5.1 or 5.2 could all be the exact same amount of powder.

I would suggest that you use the scales on a hard surface and if you can a separate bench from your press. Scales don't like mats, carpet or vibrations.

Hey Thanks for the kinda words! Yes the powder drop can be moved to the #6 position and FA is working on a new bent rod to accommodate that position. Also FA will be coming out with their Bullet feeder fairly soon from what I understand.

Interesting... the need to slow down on your FA progressive, something I’ve never had to do on my LnL or 750. Heck, not even on my Lee powder measure on an old turret. Like you said, rhythm I guess. BTW is that FA scale battery operated or electric plug in? I would recommend a plug in power sourced scale for what you are doing. More reliable/consistent IMO than batteries that will drain (might be the reason for your variances over time). Just a thought.

Don't think power supply is problem. Scale is loosing zero, possibly bench not stable enough or maybe air movement in the room.
