I love the narrators voice. Full of passion and quite soothing. For some reason reminds me of listening to the opening to War of the Worlds.

He`s a good narrator unlike those of today, just yelling+lots of drama.

Good video! There is one factual error: Kronan was not discovered on May 8, 1980, but on August 8. As a matter of fact, I was the first one to see Kronan on the TV monitor on that day, which more or less makes me the discoverer :) (the section in the beginning of the video where my father looks at the monitor is taken on a later occasion. There was no video footage onboard on the day of the discovery). I was ten years old then. On the research vessel on that day were a crew of four: I, my father Bengt, his companion Sten and Vasa's discoverer Anders Franzén. I and my father are the only ones alive today.

The Kronan was very top-heavy and when she made a sudden sharp turn she healed over,capsized,then exploded from the ordinance jarring loose

A similar fate as Vasa

Seems to have been unfortunately common for warships of the 16th and 17th centuries. Teething pains.

The reason for the explosion is not known. Most probably, fire came loose in the gunroom where around 35 tons of black powder was stored.
@AndreGrisell2 жыл бұрын
@@mysticprophecy5395 Yes, but Vasa sank in calm weather and didn't explode. Most of the people on Vasa survived, but only 42 out of the 842 onboard Kronan survived.

Kronans commanding officer had little experience when it came to sailing. He ordered a Hard turn with the Lowest gunports still open. Sea water came in, the ship healed over further and it has been theorized that this led to the magazine detonating when a source of fire, most likely a lamp, came knto contact with the gunpowder. Kronans loss Was down to inexperience and not down to construction. Even hms victory, build almost a century later had to close the Lowest gunnery Deck ports before performing maneuvers or in rough seas

Very exciting, my DNA matches someone that was on this ship. Pretty fascinating. Rest in Peace to my family, whoever you were.

There are loads of bones down there. 800 people went down with the ship. Only around 150 bodies were recovered soon after.
