yes you need to convert your equation to standard form by completing the square. In my videos I call it vertex form. I will send you a private message with a video on what your asking. The summary is to convert to standard form and then find the value of p. P is the distance from the vertex to the focus and directrix

your directrix formula is wrong because 8 is negative so it will become x=h+p focus is (h-p,k)
