Yesterday I went out on my second uranium hunt, I used a gmc-600 Geiger counter... and found 3 small samples, the largest one registered 7,500 counts per minute. The area used to be an old uranium mine during the 1950.

What is name of this device and how much price
@quantumlab91302 жыл бұрын
The one I originally was using a GQ electronics gmc-600, but now I use a Radex Obsidian scintillation counter though I have a hard time recommending it. The one I would recommend is the RadiaScan Radia Code 101, it’s a phenomenal little detector but due to the current conflict in Europe right now they are almost impossible to get, and if you can get one they are very inflated in price.

I have been extremely interested in finding uranium ore, how does this process work? Do you have any KZbin channel or book that can direct me in the right way?
@quantumlab91302 жыл бұрын
@@hannahates1 there isn’t one particular resource that I guide you too, but I can give you what I know and have found out. 1) So first obviously get some sort of Geiger counter/scintillation detector. There are many different detectors out there, but I would recommend the radiacode 101, it’s a scintillation based detector so it can do isotope identification and it’s incredibly sensitive, although due to Russia’s war with Ukraine the price has gone up. Though basically any Geiger counter will work. (Side note, it is really helpful to have a stick mounted to your Geiger counter so you don’t have to be constantly bending over when searching) 2) So once you have gotten a Geiger counter next you need to find a place where there’s actually radioactive stuff to find. To do this look and see if your government has a geological service like in the US there is something called the mineral resource data system or MRDS which has a lot of information on radioactive occurrences and mining activity in general. There is also a website called Mindat which is a user input based database of of everything related to minerals (radioactive stuff included). Additionally there are probably some very knowledgeable people on Reddit who can help you. 3) Alright so now you’ve got your Radiation detector and found a place to hunt for radioactive stuff, now it’s time to go into the field and actually do some prospecting. First if your going to an old mine than it will be relatively easy since mine dumps are easy to spot and that’s were you should do your searching. Though if the place you are looking is not a mine and Just an field or something like that then you should go over the area as if your metal detecting. If you have other questions just leave a comment and I’ll get back to you. PS: if you want help looking for a place to hunt give me the name of the general area you want to hunt in and I’ll see if I know any possible places. Also sorry for the long essay

i was looking exactly for this video buddy! i wanted to see if the GMC 320 was good enough for rock hounding and youre the only one on KZbin i believe.
@BremsstrahlungChannel7 ай бұрын
thanks mate :) ..just be aware that ive changed the GM tube in my GMC counter here, i removed the originl M4011 and somewhat butchered in the soviet SBT-11a Tube because its more sensitive and alpha capable. but honestly i think youll be just fine with the original tube, the M4011 is a really decent tube as well, GQ know what theyre doing :) BTW ive build my gmc-320 back to its original configuration meanwhile and it still works great after all the fooling around :) i put the SBT-11a into one of the cheap chinese BR-6 detectors wich also makes a great combination! very sensitive and good to find weaker samples ;)

How did you manage to store this piece with safety? I mean, I know natural Uranium is not much radioactive or harmful, but still its a strong gamma emmiter and it has to be stored with much care
@BremsstrahlungChannel4 жыл бұрын
i do store my stuff in a storage place that is far away of where people live, and also in the mean time i found myself some led sheets with which i enclose the radioactive material to block the gammas :)

It's actually not the gamma that is dangerous but the radon emanations. I'd store it somewhere with good ventilation.
