I'm also a dabbler and the struggle is so real! You are truely on point with how you curate a portfolio. Merge your mediums if appropriate, or find a way to seperate them. One of my graphic design teachers had also mentioned to build your portfolio for the jobs you want. It's good to show diversity in skill, but you have to have a main focus. Great video! I appreciate how clear you are when you breakdown different subjects 👌

I'm so happy you're back. I have so much of your content to catch up on - I've been super focused/distracted writing a novel since December, so I didn't realize you were posting again. Your update about tech interviews made me a bit emotional because I got my BS in computer science last may and relate to the whole interview/depression process. It's still an ongoing issue for me, but writing has helped a lot with my mental health and I'm finally feeling hopeful again. Anyway, my art style development tip is to not be afraid to break the rules. I've written 90% of my novel on my phone. I started out using my notes all, and now I type in OneNote. Before I started this project, I'd never written more than three chapters of a book idea - I have like 500+ pages of unedited content, about 150 of which is I know I'm keeping. Don't judge the process - if it's working, it's good. I'm also currently taking a break, even though Stephen King says write everyday. My creative tank is empty and I need inspiration. Your process is your process.

I feel the same way with my own art style - it just goes with whatever the project and the client require. The hardest thing I've run into is just making art to make art - my brain just stops working without a creative brief or idea to kickstart the inspiration. Another great video!

This is what I have missed! I love when you talk about Art!! I create art, not that often but they are random pieces. I love creating it, I am just not driven to continue to reproduce. I would guess that I need to experiment with more pieces to decide who I am as an artist. ❤

OMG, this was such an amazing video! I've recently decided to take up illustration again, a passion I had as a child and everything you said resonated with me sooo much. I'm even going to share this with my daughter who's struggling with so much of what you talked about.

I saw the Sparkle cover somewhere else before I saw your post & I immediately thought “I wonder if Sheena did this” and went to your IG, sure enough, it was you! Art style is def important. I’m working on learning and developing my own ❤️

Sheena, good advice, and I liked your time lapse piece. It's got a softer vibe to it. A question for you...what made you get rid of the harsh outlines in your art? I'm curious to know your thoughts!

Removing the old stuff is so hard for me. I really love my old stuff but I also I’m concerned that it’s not what I want to do in the future. There’s a lot of alt and creepy type stuff but I wanna go into kid’s books. What if I want to do both? Any tips? Maybe two insta pages?
