I have the GSX1000 (£71 on ebay for like new condition). What does the Atom do? Just allow for more high end headphones? Does it improve sound quality? I have HyperX Cloud Alpha's and recently tried some 80ohm DT990 Pro headphones through the GSX and they were terrible. No bass and no volume - just not great for gaming.
@b1ffd8 ай бұрын
@@richeh79 the Atom is an amp. It delivers dedicated power to the headphones. There is an amp in the GSX 1000 but it is terrible and only powered over USB. Some headphones require more power than others so a dedicated amp is necessary for some headphones but all will benefit from it. If you tried the DT 990 pros with a dedicated amp, it would be a night and day difference from what you heard. I still use my GSX1000 and Atom stack as my daily driver.

The DT990's are still in the box and I have until the end of May to return them, if I could find an amp to pair with the GSX then I'd give them a 2nd chance. So glad I saw this video. I have the Shiit Hel and GSX 1000. Loved the GSX, especially its hardware level of 7.1 surround sound. Stacking it with my Hel, I got the power to run my sennheiser 6XX and still have that 7.1 surround sound

Hi, so you use your Shiit Hel to get the extra power you need for those OHM's you have on the Sennheiser? Would it not be enougb to only use your GSX 1000?
@baitboy31913 жыл бұрын
@@papito1060 The GSX 1000 can power several of the gaming headsets from Hyper X, Logitech, Steelseries etc. Because those headphones have a lower impedance. However since the Sennheiser's are audiophile grade their impedence are in the triple digit range, which is not enough for the GSX 1000 to power so you are not getting the most out of the headphones. However now I sold my GSX and use DTS surround sound application, after watching a surround sound review on LTT, and the DTS surround sound software received pretty high scores when it came to soundstage for gaming. So now I use the Hel Shiit and DTS enabled, on planar magnetic headphones, its crazy how accurate I can track players, plus the DTS software is cheaper. All in all I would recommend using an audiophile headset, an amp and DTS software

Got the GSX1000 for $150 in January and with my Hyperx Cloud Pro, Buyerdynamic MMX 300 Gen 2, or BLON BL-03's, I can notice a huge difference in sound (bass boosted maybe? but in a good way) between the 7.1 and 2.0, but between my motherboard (ALC1220) and the 2.0HD I don't notice much of a difference in gaming, youtube, or spotify. So I wouldn't suggest getting it for listening fidelity unless you have higher quality music to listen to. I ended up keeping it because it has a button to swap outputs and really the only other option was the Mayflower Arc mk2 and at the time unavailable. I do keep the 7.1 on all the time though for the bass boost. I play Overwatch, GTA V, and Destiny 2 and in those games it does add a lot of immersion and I hear more noises - especially in Overwatch (not necessarily positionally, but can pick more out)

So I got the Fiio K5 Pro which arrived two days ago, and paired it with my ol' reliable HyperX headset. It got rid of that static noise and it works like a charm! The most noticeable difference is the sound quality when listening to music. I know they're not audiophile headphones, but with the Fiio K5 Pro, I can hear sounds I had never heard before when listening to songs I had listened to previously. I can notice a clear separation between instruments. Kind of reminds me of the first time I got glasses and being able to see individual leaves on trees, lmao. I used to run my GSX1000 through an O2 and that worked well. I noted that the communication channel seems to have a high noise floor and you end up amping that up a bit. I did use the comms channel for Discord audio so I could balance the game and chat audio with the GSX so that noise was annoying. I kinda gave up on the GSX1000 due to some issues with some of the 7.1 channels being missing in certain games. Particularly Ubisoft games like Ghost Recon. When it works it works really spookily well, like theres a noise behind you and you turn around IRL. But I found the GSX1000 too hit and miss *for most of the games that I play* so have mostly given up on it at this point.

Been running GSX 1000 + JDS Atom with HD6XX for over a year now. Definitely worth it. In terms of the usefulness of Sennheiser's binaural audio engine compared to stereo, the best way and most compact way I can describe it is this: With 7.1 enabled, I do not have to turn my character to identify the exact direction of a sound. Instead of "oh it is coming from my left speaker," it's "the sound is coming from northwest" without ever orientating my character. It eliminates the need to do so, while extending soundstage, and slightly increasing sound levels overall. As far as game support goes. Apex legends, Modern Warfare (mostly Warzone), and siege work well - to the point where I cannot play in stereo anymore because I am so used to 7.1. The only game that I would say it does not work whatsoever is Escape from Tarkov.
@badseedtech4 жыл бұрын
Interesting take on the 7.1. And despite that sounding like a dick thing to say ita not meant like that at all haha You don’t find it to interfere with the binaural thats baked into MW? I’ve run Razer’s THX through so many different testing scenarios and I fail to see the value in it at all.

If you're having problems with the GSX1000 in 7.1 mode it might be because you're using it with open back headphones. The GSX1000 is really good in 7.1 with my closed back HyperX Cloud in Battlefield V, but when I switched to my 58x (which are open-back) the sound directionality became completely broken. When I switched back to closed back, the sound of a tank idling next to me came from the right direction again.

Yah I could see that being an issue. Basically the 7.1 is expanding the soundstage artificially and it’s really hard to perfect that in regards to depth and vertical sounds. With closed, there’s naturally less soundstage so it’s not going to leak out to cause that.

@@ron2291 I've tried Dolby Atmos and tbh I prefer Sonic for headphones. Though I just found out I've been using my GSX 1000 wrong this entire time. I've had it set to the max output and stereo, but needed to set it to 16-bit 48000hz and 7.1 in Windows for the 7.1 function to actually work. No where in the instructions did it mention that. If you want to focus on competitive then I can give you a simple solution, high refresh 1080p monitor ( I own a 1440p one and honestly isn't worth the upgrade if you are even slightly budget conscious. ) a 2070- level graphics card, and a ryzen 5 or 7 chip would be perfect for a system. From there it's about whatever you value for audio. I personally would suggest a pair of dt 1990 and the smsl su-8 and the 789 from drop. That all collectively gives you about as high end audio as you really need to go. After that the diminishing returns hit hard.

3:10 I have a question about the sidetone feature of the GSX 1000 (or 1200 Pro). I just bought this product and set it up. I have a very nice and very closed headset, the Beyerdynamic MMX 300. I have been searching for a solution to be able to hear and record my own voice with no lag while gaming on PC. I *thought* this unit was finally going to be my solution to this problem. But no. I can barely hear my own voice. I have found that the GSX 1000 has just three settings for sidetone... off, low, and high. This is achieved via an LED touch button on the top of the unit. And even at high, I can barely hear my own voice. I have to practically swallow my microphone to be able to hear my voice. If I'm actually playing Destiny 2 (with its very loud in game sound effects) I cannot hear myself at all. Am I doing something wrong? Am I missing something here that I haven't configured correctly? When I go to windows audio device setting, I have set my mic level to 80. When I speak into my mic, I can see the volume meter clearly responding to my speech, showing that the mic is in fact working. But I still can barely hear my voice in the GSX 1000. I was so hopeful this would be a solution to this problem of not being able to hear myself speak in real time with this wonderful closed headset.

The problem for me was I could clearly hear that gsx1000 sound quality was overall way worse then with my onboard sound card from z390 aorus master motherboard. Sound was way less clear and more silent at the same volume as it were before with onboard card which is pointing to the low quality build-in DAC and small power to drive even my Beyerdynamic dt990 32ohm at the time of testing. So I advice before u decide pls check If your onboard soundcard isn't even better then gsx1000 itself.
@spaghettilocomotive4 жыл бұрын
Same, onboard audio on Asus Maximus X Hero has more clean power than gsx-1000, but the main reason I bought the gsx was for the surround, which no onboard soundcards can match. Sure makes me wish for Sennheiser to make a gsx-2000 with a better DAC and amp to be able to run at a higher bitrate and with more power.

I cannot speak for the G3 as I have never tried it but I bought both the GSX1000 and the soundblaster G6 after an earlier review from brian. and I am suprised of his last 2 videos because I personally find that the G6 is miles better than the GSX1000. In terms of price I find the GSX is a bit expensive(~200€ vs ~150€ for the G6) , also considering from my understanding the G6 can drive heavier headphones I *think* brian does not like having to use software which is why he prefers the GSX. Personally I don't mind, and it offers a lot in terms of audio customization. If you can you should try to buy several and see which one sounds better for you and send back the others.

Tried this combo with the Atom Amp+, but there was a loud static sound that cycled every 2 seconds. Tried the Atom Amp+ with the Astro MixAmp, and it worked flawlessly. The GSX 1000 works fine without the headphone amp but not as a pre-amp. Might be a firmware issue. I updated the GSX 1000 to the most recent firmware.

I know this isnt apart of the video, but he said that virtual surround can ruin your experience in video games. I will say that Logitech's virtual surround from DTS and Dolby Atmos Surround sound amazing in games. Modern Warfare or open world shooters game sound too good in the virtualization, however; Logitech's software unfortunately has delivered issues to a lot of games for some reason in general which ends up getting patched afterwards. I've had a pair of Artemis G933 for over 5-6 years and I have been looking to top the experience from these headphones, but I always end up realizing that nothing really tops my experience with these headphones and software suite.

I have a GSX 1000 which is great, and have been looking at a Schiit Hel in the future but I don't want to lose the separate discord audio channel - I use that a lot when streaming and recording to filter out unnecessary comms. I feel like this is the right place to drop my question: I'm looking for a allround headset solution that allows me to easily switch between PC (Gaming + Music), Laptop (Office use and yes, I'm running around the room during most calls) and PS4. I'm also gradually expanding my allround tech and audio equipment and would love to be able to include my loopstation and (at some point) studio monitors as well. My best idea so far is to get a DAC/AMP with enough In and Outputs to make sure I won't be forced to upgrade for new equipment, wireless headphones with an attachable cable (assuming they process the signal from the external DAC/AMP when wired) and the AntLion Modmic wireless. Would that work? And if not, what would?

Using dt990 pro driven by sound blasterx g6 since January. When starting a new game I now always try out how it sounds in 7.1 mode. So far I loved it in rdr2 and witcher 3, but hated it in doom 2016 and eternal, and anything with isometric camera. There is also a weird issue that after restarting pc I need to go to software and reset 7.1 if i’m using it in this mode, cause the audio starts breaking. Luckily the software is great, it only takes a few seconds to switch between modes and reset settings when needed. For comparison: To set up a device as 7.1 or return it to stereo mode via windows sound control panel you need to remember where to navigate and minimum 10 clicks and a scroll. Then another 1-2 more taps on GSX itself to preset. With Sound Blaster Connect (G6 control app) I did it in 4 clicks, and then also 1 more on device to activate/deactivate preset. There is an argument to be made that GSX still has better controls because you can switch presets and modes in-game via touch controls on device, but personally it never bothered me and the app is super fast and user friendly. And I mainly play single player games, so chat mix is not a valid selling point for me.
