Life is hard and not enough people admit that. Finding people who will support you unconditionally is very challenging as this small group of people is often called your "tribe." It is easy to get swept away on social media and think you have a large tribe. The pressure to fit into groups that you find interesting as well also erodes your uniqueness. DON'T BE AFRAID TO BE UNIQUE! I often find that I do not fit into the group molds for "quant finance", "finance", "an academic", "a motocross racer", "a gardener", or even "a dad." But over the years I have stuck to who I am and ignored the constantly moving crowds. I have been left with true gold in the people that make up my tribe. They have been there in times of need and I have been there for them. Don't forget who your true tribe is and don't change just to fit into some group.

Thanks for making this video, aside from all of the educational stuff you provide, hearing your raw story like this is quite nice too.

Definitely a well put perspective that I never thought of that. None of my close friends are from same background as me. Definition of Close Friends: Can talk about anything and always have your back, if x goes wrong. Do I get jealous that I don't fit at times. Yep, I wish I could fit in but once you start trying to search for friends. It doesn't work out, most of the time and it's a waste of energy.

This is very true. I am also a part of at least 3 groups at different times and have the exact same experience.

That's actually really ironic you went to a Catholic high School like myself, but then again what's the actual probability of that

Hello, I love your content and I think it's very valuable. I just wanted to ask you something; although you dont recommend a MFE for finance undergrads I still would like to pursue it as an undergrad in accounting; Im in my last year and the MFEs that I have seen start in October 2024, so theoretically I have like 18 months before a program so I think I have quite some time to study the quantitative fundamentals. And since Im planning to apply to the Baruch pre MFE courses to materialize my final decision, what would you recommend to study for those Pre MFE courses, like what are the fundamentals to start a pre MFE or MFE to really grasp the math and statistics. I received AP Calculus in school and Calc I, II and III in undergrad, aside from statistics I and II, and Econometrics I in R; but as you have said, undergrad quantitative course aren't probably enough. What would you recommend for my case?

I'll consider it. I haven't released a video on this because I don't have inside information on the program. Also when I criticize these online programs I usually get a lot of negative feedback.

What are your thoughts on CFA's revised curriculum , apparently they have included Python and Data Science to it !!!
@DimitriBianco
@DimitriBianco Жыл бұрын
I haven't seen it but I get a bit of a laugh at them adding python and data science. Finance as a whole is very far behind. I talked to someone I knew who did "python" in their MBA. They pulled some data from online did a few minor adjustments and created plots.

@@DimitriBianco I'm curious to know what that would mean for those who are still using only SAS or R ? How would it impact in terms of future opportunities etc

Dimitri, as for the mentor, what is the best way for finding them when you're still in the university? I've posted in several quant forums and subreddits, but nobody answered.

Quants aren't warm and fuzzy people (myself included) so it can be challenging to find a mentor. Usually if you do great work and have a well developed character someone senior on the job will want to mentor you. It is challenging when you are a student though because professionals are busy and usually aren't willing to invest in someone they don't know. Mentorship seems to be dying though which is unfortunate.

@@DimitriBianco oh that's unfortunate. I've passed a CISI certificate (equivalent of CFA in London) and apparently they can hook you up with a mentor. Maybe I will apply for that. Thank you Dimitri
