Historical societies often have events. My local one has a huge one on a timeline every other year (this year)

Closest thing i have ever found was befriending a local vintage shop owner and getting invited to her house's birthday party in 2014. It was 1964 themed which was the year her house was built. She has since closed shop and opened a cat rescue which we adopted two cats from in 2020. Unfortunately Indiana doesn't have much in the way of vintage other than maybe going to car shows in the summer.

Thank you so much for this. I moved to New York 5 years ago (from Australia) and have struggled to find a vintage community that is not focused on dancing. I'm going to look at the NY Historical Society - but if anyone is in the city, and in the same boat, please drop me a line. Appreciate you Christine!

This is a great video! I personally found my Vintage tribe through learning Swing&Jive dancing. The dance troupe are an amazing bunch of people and I'm now well informed about regular Tea Dances, Vintage Dinner Galas, car rallies, Vintage Fairs etc. The Vintage community is amazing! ❤

This video was really helpful! I live in Portland and didn’t think there was any vintage events or vintage loving people but I recently found the Oregon Historical Society that hosts yearly Victorian Edwardian dances and balls so I hope to travel to them 😁 I am only in my 20’s but I have loved vintage for a few years now so it’s time to find my people

Thanks for your kind words about the Art Deco Society of Washington. I serve on the Board and we work really hard to offer many types of events and programming to appeal to people within the vintage community and also to partner with like-minded local vintage groups. I’ve been pleased to see you and other Monumental Retro members at our events and we are expanding our vintage fashion reach. This video is really helpful and I will personally employ some of your suggestions. Thanks for all of your amazing content!

I’m very glad you made this video because I know how difficult it can be to get plugged in to a community. So far Facebook groups and event calendar has helped me find locals to connect with.

Thank you, Christine! I made tea with lemon and enjoyed the video! I think the vintage community is really big in the USA and Europe, as the market these beautiful things was really extensive. In Russia we have flea markets but they are not big and not everywhere, vintage community is not big and there are no such wonderful large-scale vintage events because nobody wants to remember USSR period😅. Dear Christine, how do you manage to create content and be active in every social media, what is your secret?🙈

I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I'm sorry to hear that there isn't much of a vintage community where you are. As for how I'm able to manage everything I do, I don't always feel like I'm managing all that well sometimes, so it's nice to know that at least there is the perception that I have my stuff together. I don't have kids, so I'm sure that's a big part of it.

@@TheGlambassador I don't have any kids too, but I only have time to read, watch and react to Instagram posts, despite the fact that I have a little over 250 subscriptions and after reading I no longer have time to create my own content for my professional page and for Facebook and other social media I don't have time at all. Would love to know your time management secret. I am sure you are not only a creator of content but you follow somebody too and read their posts too, how can you do it? 🙈🙏

It'd be lovely to be a part of a vintage community IRL, but, to be honest, it's kinda scary, cause of the values. Unfortunately, it seems, not everybody subscribes to the idea of "vintage style, not vintage values" and racism, misogyny, homophobia, transphobia, ableism, ageism are still often present in vintage groups and institutions. :( I mean, they are still very present in our everyday lives, so no wonder that vintage groups are also tainted. :( It's nice to have at least the internet. :)

Agreed, it does take a bit more work to ensure that the community you choose aligns with your values. There always seems to be a few people with intolerable traits and beliefs in any group, but I’ve been fortunate to be a part of some lovely, inclusive and more left leaning groups. I hope these tips will help you find your people. 🥰
