Corey, I've been meaning to say this for a while, "Thank you for your service to our nation." 9/11 hit my family personally. Today is a day of gratitude for all our men and women who serve in the armed forces. Hi to the family. Sunday uploads are a real treat.

I live in Kansas and since I bought a new car, I have been making trips to different spots in the state. Lake Scott is my Memorial Day weekend plan so I can hit Monument Rocks, Little Jerusalem Badlands, and Chimney Rock along with other spots. It's off the beaten path, but the Gypsum Hills between Coldwater and Medicine Lodge is absolutely stunning. So the next time you're in Kansas, just skirt the Oklahoma border and see some lovely scenery. :)

Fun Fact. At Lake Scott State Park there are 100 trees planted in perfect straight rows and colums. Those were planted by my uncle close to 100 years ago. Not sure if it was a an Eagle Scout Project ot high School project. Probably Eagle Scout. A little south of the park is a hogback. There are wagon tracks over the hogback made by my Great Grandfather when he hauled water from the river to water trees he planted. Thanks for your storytelling!

Wow, what a fantastic sunrise location! We especially love soaking in the golden hour before the sun actually pops through. I love how you said hidden gems are everywhere and how you're spending time in a less popular state. So many people think you have to be on one of the coasts to have a great trip but that's just not true.

We lived less than an hour from there for 13 years but never were in that area. I don’t know how we missed that! It would have made such a wonderful homeschool field trip! Love this video and seeing my home state in such a sweet light.

How funny you're at Lake Scott, I fished at that lake back in 1975 when my best friend and I were on a cross country trip(2 months long) straight out of Highschool. We stayed in Scott City for a couple weeks while working for the cousin of my friend I was with doing grease rendering to be taken down to the Wichita Purina dog food plant. We worked odd jobs while we toured the country(that's how we paid for most things), we also had been saving for almost a year for the trip so we were able to do and see a lot. Scott City was kind of unique in how friendly people there were, every car we passed going the other way would wave to us and we chatted with the local cops on the CB radio, they knew we were speeding on the highway(not a lot but some) but we all laughed about it. I hope it hasn't changed too much since then !

I was born in western Kansas and live in central Kansas now. I camped at lake Scott most of my life. It's a great place. Hope you enjoyed your stay. Keep on keeping on

We were there in 1984 during our honeymoon and we also checked out castle rock, which as hard to find but locals helped us find it. Castle rock was a hang out for teenagers so had lots of beer cans. We still enjoyed the adventure.

Stayed there one night last year, coming home from pagosa springs to Corning ks, it was all but full and yes the kansas heat was beating down. We really need to spend time exploring our own state parks..

On that picanha, they are tricky to slice as they have multiple grain directions, however if you slice 90 degrees from the direction you had sliced(sliced against the grain rather than with the grain), you'd have a much more tender bite, the slices in the middle appear to have been against the grain so I'd venture to guess they had a more tender bite than those outer slices. Looked great!

Another hidden jewel you drove right by,is Wilson Lake. Just north of I 70 between Salina and Hays. It’s a beautiful clear lake surrounded by 200 ft. hills.

Fun fact about Monument Rock, if you look closely you will realize that it is actually fossilized wood but and shells. That's because Kansas used to be under water and that's remnants from that period.

On the west side of Highway 83 there is Jerusalem Badlands and south of that the pyramids if you go through there again. Interesting to see how much soil erosion can strip away. Be safe.

You rubber band flies (good shot BTW), I live catch and release. How do I do that? Cup your hand and put it preferably facing the fly, then with an upward motion close your hand as you approach the fly. You gotta be fast and takes practice. There will be less fly guts on you cabinets. ; - )

Another nice hidden oasis, is West Siloam Springs in Easter Oklahoma. It even includes a very nice waterfall. A ton of trails. Anyways, you guys make me want to visit Kansas. Lily, that almost sounded like something Caleb would say. LMAO, best line in the episode.

There is another rock formation in the area called “ Little Jerusalem Badlands State Park” similar to monument rock We have camped at Lake Scott twice. Nice video!!

You guys never fail in your video presentations and showing us places to visit. I recently took my family to Mt. Rushmore and areas and i had the opportunity of watching my brother help in retiring the flag at My. Rushmore it gave me an awesome feeling of pride in our country. But only because of the video of when you all visited there. I've been through Kansas a couple of times this summer and wish i had known of this campground, but it's just another reason to go back through. I do drive from Utah so have the opportunity of many new adventures. Thanks again.

Those outcroppings were amazing! Something to look forward to going across Kansas. Kansas and Missouri state parks are phenomenal and almost always on a lake. Hwy 36 that parallels I-70 aa little north is a great route too. (Just get back on I-70 by Oberlin. It gets bad the rest of the way toward Denver.) What a great trip. I love following you all and hope there will be a chance to work on a project with you soon. Looking forward to that.

If you all are looking for more of obscure Kansas finds camp at Winfield City Lake in Cowley County and do a tour of the Cowley County Stone Arch Bridges (Cowley County has 18 of the 1700 stone arch bridges in the US and some are double and I believe there is even a triple arch). The builder constructed over 100 bridges but most in Kansas he built were in Cowley County and just to the north in Butler County all in the late 1800's to early 1900's. I have one about a mile from my house. Just google Cowley County Stone Arch Bridges and you'll find some good maps for all of them. Great video of Scott State Park and the lake. The lake, Monument Rocks, and Jerusalem Badlands Park are on my bucket list to check out soon.

We were there 4 years ago and it was so cool. I actually brought my 30' Travel Trailer down there because we were on the way to Colorado. The only downside was all the Cow Pie on the nose of the trailer.

Rand McNally used to have little red text areas on their maps of off beat attractions. That area was one of them so I visited there probably 15+ years ago. I got so sick of I70 I started taking #400 if headed to Colorado. Often small towns in the plains of NE and KS offer cheap or even free hookups in their city parks.

No you rather torture us guys 🤪 🤣🤣🤣 gosh that steak looked so darn freaking good.That's the kind of melts in your mouth.Cory needs to come out with a cookbook for barbecuing!! Who'd of thunk it that monument in the middle of flat ole no trees Kansas. That is such a flipping cool place. Prairieland is not that bad though. Nah I think Nebraska is worse and Eastern Colorado too. That is so unusual. And yeah all the times I've been through Kansas I can't even count how many times going somewhere else. I never knew that was there. But I was always just traveling through I wasn't you know exploring. Now one time it was so flipping hot we found a BEAUTIFUL lake with trees YES trees.And we swam and cooled off in that for a couple hours. Couldn't tell you where it was somewhere in Kansas🤣🤣 As always safe and happy 🥰❤️✌️ travels p.s. speaking of Eastern Colorado if you guys ever go through there. There is a really cool sanctuary for lions and tigers and bears oh my. Anywho they have built these like huge walkways up over the sanctuary so you're up and close personal with the animals but not where they can grab you. They had just finished building it when I left Co and moved to Miami. I think that was in 2011? But they have done a lot with it. Added so much more of those walkways. If I think of the name I'll add it back in a separate comment.

Nice video, so true that every state has it's secret hidden places. IF you are still in Kansas, I used to live in Hutchinson, amazing place to stop at. Not only do they have the State Fair right now, but they have the Cosmosphere (an amazing space museum), Carey Park along the river, the BEST Mexican restaurant you will ever eat at, Anchor Inn, some of the best Barbeque and overall a friendly place.

After my great-grandfather served in the Civil War, and, his only brother was killed, he homesteaded in KS, and became a very successful wheat farmer.The state Historical Society sent someone to interview him about 1922, and it's on record. For some reason I googled his name and found it! I was born in KS, but lived there only 4 yrs. I was raised in CA. I love KS🌾🌾🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌾🌾🌾!
