And they probably should! Now don't try to tell me that there's no place in the countryside to build a shed that is farther than 100m from a freaking village! If you sh*t on other people's heads, almost literally, then expect them to sue. I even try to take wind direction into consideration when applying manure to the fields because i value relationship with my neighbors, but having a barn of that size right outside the village is a different universe.

@@kaelembyrne8682 First of all i think the farmer should sue departments that gave all the permits, but there is a possibility that he didn't comply to some sort of demands that were expected and that's the real reason farmer got fined. Remember that we're only hearing one-sided version of the story. It rarely is so simple as "i id everything right and i still got punished". Usually if we dig deeper some nasty stuff can be uncovered. Again, if everything was done right, he should be able to sue those departments.

Used to have a local hog farmer that was bullied by the town he lived outside of. Unfortunately for the town he owned and farmed fields on all four sides of town. Needless to say what ever way the wind blew he would always let you smell who paid the most taxes in the area.

similar things are happening in the Netherlands at the moment. does it matter where people who sign live? honestly it makes me sad that people and politicians don't realize that we're gonna have trouble feeding people if they keep strangling agriculture the way they do. right now they wanna move or buy out farmers, in 15 years they'll realize it wasn't enough to reduce emissions and on top of that prices for all the things we produce will go up. and the best thing about it all is that the big guys will survive, and the ' family farm' like the one mentioned in this video will be forced to give it all up and move on. i'll leave it at that.

That case should be thrown out of court & the complainants should have to return any moneys received & made pay court costs etc. I would not be taking my shed down without a fight against the planning offices that approved all those original plans.

They should've never allowed building near a village. I wouldn't build a barn this size just 100m from my own house, let alone a village, even if i got all the permits, because the laws can change at any moment. Also don't build near other people's houses, period. I can only imagine living in constant smell, and being smelly when you go to work or anywhere else. It is one thing to live with the smell of slurry when it's applied to the fields, but constant smell is something different.

Seeing here comments ,most are completely out of context. It's to do with firstly the planning who granted the buildings but secondly did the farmer disrespect the laws of noise? There are laws here against noise after certain hours and by reports of newspapers in his regions he was working and making noise at all hours in the night. Yes ghee were cattle shed smells,that's a reality of countryside life but as to the noise levels,there should have been some control. He was warned about noise levels but continued. How many would tolerate that even of farming background? This is not as simple as saying it anti farmer, there's more to it. Just happens that not all framers are respectful either as well as annoying non farming neighbours sometimes!!!
@markwright3161
@markwright3161 2 жыл бұрын
Looking after livestock involves working at all hours. If an animal is trapped or something you can't sit around until 07:00 or whenever to go and help it just because it involves making some noise. Description mentions dairy, but were they calving as well? You certainly can't leave animals in labour all night and potentially die from complications just because it's noisy. Was milking them at 06:00 or similar the problem? That's a part of milking, it involves setting up beforehand which involves operating equipment that makes noise, likewise packing up after the evening milking. If they want milk, cheese, butter, bread, etc they have to enable cows to be milked at some point. Yeah, noise limits are there for good reasons for residents and 'conventional' businesses that produce a lot of noise but can be switched off at the end of the day, a garage for fixing cars for example, but farms are 24/7 operations. You can't switch cows off or shove a cork of their backside just because it's 23:00. If a few dozen of them decide to wake up at 01:45 and start roaring if water troughs are empty or something, or equipment like a generator needs to start up during the night to keep stored milk at a suitable temperature, there's nothing the farmer can do to stop it. The residents didn't object when told about the plans, there was no objections from authorities in building the shed and its purpose, and the only reason he was building the shed in the first place was to conform to the regulations authorities set on how farms should operate. What did they think a shed on a dairy farm was going to be used for? That's like not objecting to plans for an airport to be built next door then complaining when planes start landing there once built, an airport that local authorities legislate into being mandatory if a business is to continue suppling a vital resource for human life. Where will we be if every farm that doesn't have the resources (sheds, etc) to comply with additional legislation, and don't expand to be able to comply with them because there are houses nearby, decided they'll just shut their doors instead? International food shortages and people starving to death in the supposedly 'developed' world, that's where. The situation in Ukraine has already shown how tight it is now just trying to supply food with ever tightening regulations. We'll see the affects in the next few harvests, even if the situation is resolved quicker than that.

@@markwright3161 I agree with every point you make,being an ex dairy farmer I do understand its constraints and ways. Your initial points were to the management of cattle,all true and not a problem. Then to your second part about building approval plans,again true. But where did this go wrong? How did the villagers turnagainst this farmer? These villagers all didn't come from Paris? Its not a simple as people v farmers,out of context. France is still very rural based society,all having farming roots and there's far less ridiculing of farmers here in France than Ireland where they're a little disrespected. Spoke to locals here about this case and they all confirmed the same,this farmer must have seriously breached the most basic limits. He must have very disruptive and we all knew unscrupulous farmers who gave a dreadful image from animal abusers to hormone users to tb rackets!! Knew some myself. But anyway this guy a dairyman and working all night,surely as I used to do milk at 06 00 then at 6 in evening and all done,no problem. Calving lasts a few months but isn't that noisy,there are times yes when roars come. Cattle well fed don't make noise and well fed apparently don't calve at night? This farmer to be fined what he was 120,000€ really must have caused problems, there are thousands of farmers like him all over France and no problem. To be approved his building there were obviously studies made and it satisfied the authorities. There were its very loud metallic sounds all night,bellowing of cattle and smells, smells are a reality of farming and shouldn't count. I'd like to see the evidence given and the sound recordings etc just to conclude. Just because he is a farmer doesn't excuse him from misbehaviour and respect. Being an ex farmer I'm defensive of farmers always,its my blood but I couldn't excuse a problematic one because that causes problems for the rest who farm in villages,this case could cause regulations to be implemented. Its happened before because of pollution,cattle racketeering etc.
@markwright3161

@@oliver69cork46 Thanks for adding info. Metallic sounds changes it a bit, and all night I guess actually means all night and not someone woke up 2 hours earlier than they wanted to get up by something starting up then claiming it was all night in this case. I'm in Northern Ireland so am more familiar with UK/ROI views on farming, town folk moving out to the country then having issues with it not being a mood garden or something. I get defensive over things that can be misrepresented, town folk who think farming is just a pollution factory or something, even though that's utter rubbish as the grass etc is taking in anything cows produce, and it's the only way people get fed as politicians seem to forget, and that going vegan is best even though soya is imported from places like Brazil than is cutting down the rainforest in order to produce it, and the obsession of going electric when that involved vast manufacturing and scrapping processes that are extremely energy intensive that makes green cars not green at all (Volvo compared the production of an ICE model against an electric version of the same model, showing that you'd have to do 50'000 - 90'000 miles (depending on where your electricity comes from) in the electric one just to break even with the ICE emissions), amongst other things. If someone is biased against, I can appear biased in favour in an attempt to balance. :) Bad examples are out there, it's just unfortunate that those against farming, etc then use that as an example of all farming and as a reason they need to make life more difficult for all farmers. Over here the BBC made a 'documentary' about dairy farming but seemed to actively seek out a badly run farm in Wales that mistreated animals that happened to also have a 'red tractor approved' thing (quality standards thing in GB), and they then painted the picture as if that was common, utterly ridiculous and very dangerous too. I wish the bad examples didn't exist, but sadly that isn't the case too often, 1 farm in 1'000'000 being too many.

@@markwright3161 agree 100% with you,you reflect on issues and you're quite right to attack misrepresentation, its everywhere today. Was a dairy farmer but after 20 years became disillusioned by the abuse of milk producers by cooperatives, its tough and not fair. I side very often with farmers but its case dependent, a farmer disrespectful of the environment or basic ethics I'm against eg animal cruelty. They should be banned for life. If this is about the terrible stink from agitated or spreading slurry then im with the neighbours. Farmers have been treating neighbours and tourists or anyone locally with contempt. If farmers in town for any reason were engulfed with smells from an urban sewage works they would not like it. Size of fine is ridiculous. So is shed removal. Solution, put air pipes on floor and walls of all tanks and link to a compressor to regularly aerate the slurry. This prevents the dangerous and obnoxious gases building up and everyone gets on.

The farmer should hire some italians to impose real justice, pay the mob a justice fee. Those pesky cockroaches will not like being exterminated. Yet sometimes life requires you to kick a little.

Wonder who would be the first to whine and cry when there’s no milk or dairy products on the shelves. People are stupid.

Choose to live next door to a farm and then complain about the noise and smell……wtf is wrong with people. Probably the very same people that like the view of the countryside and think it’s all natural where in fact nearly all of countryside was made by farmers and farming practices over the centuries
