Educational aspect or rip off? Everyone has been confronted with this before, and it can happen very quickly, especially when traveling by car: When it comes to fines, opinions differ widely. Whether parking with no stopping or without a ticket, cell phone during the drive or driving too fast - cities and municipalities cash in. North Rhine-Westphalia's largest city Cologne received around 23 million euros in fines in 2019 and Germany's most famous speed camera on Bielefelder Berg took photos worth 6.5 million euros. What is the cost of which offenses and where does the money go? Is it all about road safety or are speed cameras also moneymaking? And when does the catch threaten?
Daniel Aßmann tows parking offenders in "Bußgelder", goes on a ticket hunt with a traffic control employee, is present at the maintenance of a speed camera system and meets with a traffic attorney to clarify when it can be worthwhile against one Fines or even points to proceed legally in Flensburg. In addition, Daniel meets artificial intelligence in the Netherlands, which exposes cell phone sinners at the wheel, and makes the comparison: Are the fines in Germany too weak in an international comparison?
