Great lesson. If I may offer some advice for anyone new to fingerstyle, start by focusing on conquering your thumb. Spend a few days or weeks just focusing on getting to where you can thumb the root and next lowest note of any chord without thinking about it. Once you have mastered the thumb the rest will fall into place with amazing ease. It takes some time and patience but is well worth it.

Definitely go “Pro”. I am 65 and so wish we had access to something like this when I was growing up. Little town I grew up in had one old guitar teacher and I wouldn’t take lessons.
@patrickian88433 жыл бұрын
Amen to that! I just turned 65 and remember when we only had books to learn from (VHS tapes hadn’t been invented yet) and, guitar teachers were too expensive. My dad would however, pay for Clarinet lessons…he was a “Big Band” junky.

Im curious about the speed at what the younger generation learn guitar having the influence of gaming on consoles, using multiple fingers to fulfill a given outcome. Any observations here from you as a teacher?

They are standing on the shoulders of Giants. I’m sure there could be some amount of DNA that’s passed through, but when you start off learning eruption instead of smoke on the water, the better players are going to be better.

It depends how good you want to be. Mediocre practice time will equate to a mediocre player. Exceptional practice time will create an exceptional player.
