Dear Mike, this is another awesome class, very professional and educative. I have tried iodine using a transparent disposable box, like those used for salads to go; they are very cheap and can be used over and over; I think the small size, aprox 4 inches x 6 inches works the best. If you set the evidence in the box in a semi circle shape there is no risk it touches the iodine crystals which usually results in stains distorting the prints. Iodine seems to work better on some types of papers than others; for instance, you get better results using receipt paper, i.e., the one you get every time you go shopping. I theorize that you get better prints since the paper is less porous. Don´t waste your money in "enhancers". I usually spray the print once developed using a solution of old style corn starch available at any grocery store. Also, using the water of your favorite pasta does the same job. The print should be sprayed with a very fine mist and it takes a while before you find the correct concentration of your fixing solution. I also understood over the years that the amount of crystals used and the size of the fuming chamber have a lot to do with the success of this technique. Iodine development should be done slowly, over a period of time, using very few crystals. Another method i would use when it comes to paper is silver nitrate 1% solution and direct sun linght. God bless you and keep doing these fantastic videos I have been your fan since day one.

I enjoyed your video very much. I have an assignment to discuss using heat to retrieve prints from paper. It was discovered in Australia? Not sure when or where? I was wondering if you had done a video on this particular method? Thanks in advance✌

I am not aware of just applying heat to develop fingerprints on paper. Normally you would apply ninhydrin to the paper, then apply heat. That is how most prints are developed on paper. You can dip or spray the ninhydrin on the paper before heating. It is VERY toxic though and that is why I have not done a video on it. I can't bring the fuming hood into the studio. I hope this helps.

Mike McCutcheon Wow! Ok Thank you very much for your prompt response! Very informative. Also, if I could bother you with one more question. I'm having a lil bit of difficulty with a class assignment regarding identifying the race, gender, age, and height of skeletal remains. Its just a picture of the pelvis along with some measurements of other bones, skull, teeth, etc. They are listed and the info is in our text book. However, this is an online class and I'm wondering if you have a video concerning this segment of my Criministics chapter.? Thanks in advance!✌

Mike McCutcheon I've been on the internet studying the Caucasian, Mongoloid, Nergroid, etc. It seems as if the characteristics to define race, age, gender, are indeed contradictory to where I'm unsure bc they are quite complex yet general. Just curious if you knew a simpler way to solving this puzzle. Thank you sir for your expertise!✌

Would the iodine blow tube contaminate the paper with your DNA?

You wouldn't necessarily use it in instances where touch DNA would be a concern. However, even if it later was, he would document his methods; so thus, his DNA profile would be considered if found.

Could that technique be used to validate a box of ballots that shows up days after an election. In theory I would expect most all of the ballots in box to have a unique fingerprint from a voter in addition to the poll worker who gave it to them. A box of ballots with no prints, or a handful of unique prints might be fraudulent. I would expect the ballots I was given when I last voted would have my thumbprint and that of the poll worker who gave it to me.

He's writing 'Help Me' to the top of the page. But he's applying the black jet lifter on the lower part of the page! And there is the wiring print! WTF? There was no writing on the lower part of the page!

2zim2 thanks for watching. That is how it is supposed to be. If you had a suicide note for example, but you thought that it was fake, you would want to check the under pages to see if there was something else written before the visible writing.
@profmccutch
@profmccutch 8 жыл бұрын
You don't need to check the underneath for writing that is visible on the top. You want to check where isn't writing underneath to see if there was something there. That is the demonstration.

İ get why we doin this on the blank pages sir, but in the video, you stick the jel on the wrong surface. The writing was on the higher part of it. I'm not trying yo be rude, don't get me wrong. I only trying to say it was a video editing mistake:)

2zim2 I got you. I was simulating that some one wrote on the lower part of the pad and tore it off. Then they wrote on the upper part to through off the investors. That is why I tried to show that even if you don't see writing on the top page you have to check the blank spaces. I appreciate you watching and commenting. It keeps me on my toes.
