I wanted to learn ASL for a while and took the plunge and by FAR your videos are the BEST I've found. You do SUCH a great job!!! I went back to the beginning and I'm working my way through all of your videos!!!

You are so incredibly talented at explaining your points. It's so funny that you used the word "bus" in this video, as I just had to drill that fingerspelling motion into my head for an assignment. I had to spell it very quickly but for some reason my fingers didn't want to move that way... lol. So I "drilled" the spelling over and over again until my hands felt comfortable moving in that way. Thanks for this video!

Wow! Thank you for giving the fingerspelling tips. I applaud the alphabet combination as well as the finger exercises.

I love when you talk and sign in your videos. it's hard to read captions while also trying to watch your movements to learn, but it's nice to be able to watch your sign while you talk so I can start seeing patterns and understand certain signs with your words!

Hi :) Just wanted to say thank you for providing these lessons. I'm a bit of a people person and I've been told, through most of my life, that I tend to talk a lot. I admit that this is true. With your lessons I hope to extend this "gift of gab" to even more people. Eventually I expect to just pretend to not understand when someone tells me through ASL to "please stop talking" ;) Cheers

Yes! Please put a learning playlist together with verbal voice overs. Everyone learns differently. Some of us need the verbal tips & cues to learn ASL. Thank you.

It must be really sad for people who are used to signing or that is their primary language and they get arthritis or something when they’re older. My mom has RA and she has a hard time moving her hands and fingers. I’m sure some older people who are deaf deal with that 😞

Are you an ASL teacher with a degree and/or a certified interpreter? Otherwise you should not be teaching others. I really hope that is not the case.
@jilliangtz21013 жыл бұрын
No, she should NOT be teaching ASL - period. I have seen her ASL books on Amazon too. This is just another hearing person pretending to be an ally and appropriating and exploiting our language and culture for profit. I can tell you that this whole channel here is a BIG HARD NO.
@noemimagana78233 жыл бұрын
@@jilliangtz2101 wow! I’m saddened when hearing people do things like these to profit from it! I’m an ASL interpreting student and was taught that I could not teach nor profit from it because it is not our language to do so. So sad other people don’t respect other cultures!
@tatianadixon74933 жыл бұрын
Hi Rochelle, I would like to reach out to you for a business inquiry. Do you have an email for that purpose? Thanks!
@jilliangtz21013 жыл бұрын
Tatiana, please do NOT contact her for business related to ASL and Deaf culture. The Deaf community has made it absolutely CLEAR many times that hearing people should not teach our language that we have developed and cherished over generations due to the power dynamics (this also goes for CODAs, Children of Deaf Adults, who grew up with the language but are strongly discouraged from teaching it for profit due to their hearing privileges and out of respect for their Deaf ancestors). We are a marginalized minority community and this is a blatant act of appropriation and exploitation. Rochelle, please stop this. I did my research on you and saw your ASL books on Amazon. All that broke my heart because you are perpetuating the long practice of hearing people’s appropriation and exploitation of our culture and language. We know our language has benefitted so many others outside of our community like children who are nonverbal (not due to being deaf). However, you being a parent doesn’t give you the right to do this. And you are not the first nor, unfortunately, will you be the last hearing parent to do this exact thing. Just STOP what you are doing and seek elsewhere for your income opportunities. This is NOT the way to be an ally to our community. At all.

So I hope you can help me in one way or another.. I have always wanted to learn sign language.. but never really took it to the next level. No I am not deaf. But off and on I wanted to learn..But like me speaking it ..I have never really been good at it.. (English) I have a reading disorder... Anywho so I stopped with the alphabet...I know u said there are a few different ways in the USA . I LIKE TO LEARN ASL .. I REALLY GOT BACK INTO WANTING TO LEARN AFTER I SEEN HAWKEYE.. One of the characters in the show is deaf.. but in real life she is too. Amazing actress and beautiful as well!! In the tv show her name is Maya (Echo) Real name Ms Cox don't know how to spell her first name. Very good show anyway. Sorry, but yes I would like to learn ... Is there away to combine old school language/ with ASL ?? I guess what I mean is there alot of difference of signing ?? If so how much

How do you sign “that wasn’t my dog!” A deaf woman yelled and cussed at me while I was trying to help her get a neighbors small dog away from her service animal. She must’ve thought the dog was mine because she was going nuts and cussing at me but I was just trying to help her. I tried to say it but clearly she didn’t hear me - nor did she care at that point. She was actually quite rude but I still want her to know the dog was not mine. Is there a simple way to say that in sign?
@ephemereaux3 жыл бұрын
Okay so I’m a beginner but I would simply sign NOT MINE or NOT MY DOG/DOG NOT MINE
@evelyno92653 жыл бұрын
Not is a thumbs up on your chin coming downwards and you would point to yourself, “not mine” if you need a visual I would search up how to sign it and dog is simply a pat on your leg and a snap like your getting a dogs attention
