This is so very helpful. I am learning this variation over the summer to help maintain the endurance I worked so hard for during the Spring. Although I don't have space to do more than mark it at home where I have the computer screen, it is so helpful to just watch through all the steps being broken down so I can clearly see what is happening. Then I can try it at the studio in a few days when I have the steps learned.

I never did ballet as a child, I started when I was 24, now I'm 30 and always wanted to learn this variation ^^ Actually, this was one of the dances that made want to learn how to dance, and I always heard that I would never be able to learn 'cause I'm "old", but with these lessons I feel like it's possible for someone like me dance this variation xD For real, keep making those kind of videos, they're amazing and help us a lot to understand the choreography better

For her to be so young and dancing such a hard and very known principle variation is amazing. I'm a dancer myself and when I was younger I would have been too intimidated to even attempt it but she did it like it was nothing. Claudia you are absolutely beyond amazing!! What a beautiful perfect dancer you are!! Chloe what an awesome dancer you are! So so enjoyed this tutorial! My pupils have had the best time learning it, albeit really fast, but so lovely and challenging!! They are managing well! We have a problem when it comes to the menage. all the versions of Sugar Plum end before the menage, so we do not have the rest of the music to do the pirouettes. Is there anyway we can buy/obtain your version of music? Claudia you have really changed the ballet world with your amazing tutorials!!! Everybody just LOVES them so!! Please do some more. Lilac Fairy, Gamzatti or whatever you choose. we LOVE them. This is so inspiring for all senior girls! Please use Chloe....she is AMAZING!!! THANK YOU SOOO MUCH Claudia & Chloe!!! xxx

I may be wrong about this - but in a gargouillard I thought the ronds need to finish with a straight knee - was thinking this is more important that doing a double on each side. Also I preferred, on the retire's, when there was a delay in unfolding the presenting arm, rather than the arm getting there exactly on or just before the retire. Not sure I'm right about that either, just thought it looked better. Will check later how it's generally done on stage.

Follow up note: Nina Kaptosova (at Bolshoi) in Bluebird Variation (kzbin.info/www/bejne/kIfUnmaYhd6XadE at 0:47) does her first arm presentation on time with her retire, but the second one is delayed, as your student did it. It seems to be a matter of artistry. Sometimes, to create artistry you have to break the rules. Love to you!

Claudia Dean World omg!!! i love you so much you are such an inspirational person to me. i want to be a principal dancer when i am older. i recently got into pointe!! i am 11 years old and i’m at the dance studio 11 ours a week Monday to friday. as well as that i maintain straight a’s!! it is my dream and what i want to do forever to dance. i am in a higher level than i am supposed to be. at my studio there are up to five levels and i am about level three or four. i’m supposed to be in level two. i put so much passion into dance and i have been doing it since two!! i love you soooooo much!!! i do pointe, jazz, ballet, contemporary, conditioning, tap, another class of ballet, ballet turns and leaps, hip hop, and acro!!! thank you!! 😆

The dancer has lovely form, but does she not know that each step goes to a specific flourish in the music, especially so for this piece? Each little tinkle in the sugar plum music goes with a beat of the foot or a spin, etc and she's sooo off. Good job for a first run through I guess.
