I always enjoy following your progress on this project Scott. Another significant milestone under your belt, everything looks superb and you deserve your break. Starting the engine mount, cowl, fuselage build etc is exciting. I often start to feel daunted during a project and I find that it always helps to keep reminding myself that its not always about the destination - enjoy the journey, as you clearly always do. 👍👍🤏cheers Paul

Just a suggestion, here in the states we would ... Use an AN bolt with a drilled head and safety wire the bolt to the engine mount, or use a Castellated nut with a cotter pin. Or do both for safety. Great job .... Keep the Dream.
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
Yes I know but the fuselage was tapped or threaded for these bolts

Much appreciate the clarification Scott. I find the Camel build and your meticulous attention to detail compulsive viewing, my 1/4 scale Sopwith Pup flew beautifully however the Jabiru powered Rans S-6 is a bit more challenging ! Best wishes from Les in Nottingham U.K.

Regarding setting the engine up on the bench. Take the sections of the collector ring with the stacks off so you can set the engine down on the rocker covers. Very easy to do and prevents having to be careful where or how you set the engine down. That’s what I did with my R3600. VERY nice build!

Looking great mate! Totally understand the overwhelmed feeling. Take your time and think it through. If you can visit the engine factory or have them visit you to pick their brain would be really handy. The fabric and paint turned out really well

@14:00, I've had my O-200 on an engine hoist now for 2 yrs (while I rebuild the aircraft). I just made a crutch out of 2X4 lumber in case of hoist failure. Love the build! I'm gonna cover some elevators this week, stewart systems are latex paint

Wings are amazing and done! I can see the line of mechanics wanting to do your yearly, immaculate enegine. They would need gloves to not leave finger prints on that engine! OCD will have you breaking the Rotex down into steps. I tried the Nords washers on an muffler ( model engine) but to much heat stretch.. Keep going after a good break!
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
Thank you, did the Nord washers work?

G'day Scott, Looks good mate ! I think it might be best to finish the Wheels/Axles/Bungee-Cords, before hanging the Engine...; no specific reason, but that's my feeling. Segue... I've said before that I'm trrating the Electric Chookchaser like an Ultralight, not taking it out in rain or strong winds...; well it turns out that one should tie down the Motorbike - when the Blue Tarpaulin is pegged onto it, parked between two clumps of Melaleuca alternifolia in it's usual spot... I went out half an hour ago to check the new Solar Panel mountings because there've been some strong Wind gusts through the Clearing - and BUGGAR ME..., the Wind had blown the Bike over, using the tight-wrapped Tarp. as a Sail ; breaking the Cast Aluminium Headlight-mounting-Plate and both the Plastic front Blinker-Stalks...! Grrr ! 2,380 Km without falling off and the Wind knocked it down BECAUSE I had it wrapped up in a Tarpaulin to keep the Rain off ! So, tomorrow I'll have to Jury-rig a functional repair, to keep the machine servicable while I order, and wait for, new replacement Hong Kong-ium Parts to show up... Who knew one had to fit Tie-downs to stop a bloody Motorbike from being broken by the Wind ? I posted a Chest-Camera view of a ride to town on Sunday, a Rideabout/Talkabout video, You might find it interesting ? "Electric Motorcycling, Riding Into The Trumpocalypse...; Accelerationism Now In Control...!" Such is life, Live a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
That's a shame about the motorbike. I'm glad you're ok though.
@WarblesOnALotАй бұрын
@scottmatthews5280 Thanks. Yeah, it's a bit of a bummer - but now the challenge is to try to repair it as neatly as possible...; it should be do-able, glue-able, then to be served with Thread and reinforced with Bondic or Epoxy (not yet decided), and then overpainted with mat Black. Overpainting with mat Black makes all kinds of jury-rigged structures look "professional"...(!). I just wish I'd known that Wind attacks Tarpaulin-wrapped little Electric Chook-chasers ! One lives and one learns... Such is life, Live a good one... Stay safe. ;-p Ciao !

Great video and the roundels look great! I noticed that you aren’t using AN hardware for the engine mount. Are you using AN hardware elsewhere on the aircraft at critical point, like wing attachment points etc?
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
Yes AN everywhere else, the engine mount points were already tapped threads.

@LesWojciechowskiАй бұрын
Do you not want to attach bungee cord to the axles before mounting the engine ?
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
No, it all needs to come out to manufacture some sort of brakes.
@bruceyoung1343Ай бұрын
Just a suggestion but wouldn’t wireing those engine mount bolts be more secure ?
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
Just as secure, it’s like being more pregnant! I broke two drill bits trying to drill a hole for lockewire.
@bruceyoung1343Ай бұрын
@ do you have drill stand or hand drill?
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
Both but rarely use the stand drill just the dewalt battery drill
@fraserm803Ай бұрын
the trouble with rotec engines is that the name is too similar to a reliable engine manufacturer named rotax
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
So far it purrs along nicely.

Well I love the build and I'm routin for ya
@453421abcdefg12345Ай бұрын
I can not believe you are risking your life/excellent workmanship by using a rotec engine! There are many documented catastrophic failures of this engine, and the poor response from the makers, please check with other users on their experience with this engine.
@scottmatthews5280Ай бұрын
No, there are a couple of reported issues. Many are happily flying and following the manufacturers guidelines. Did you have issues with your Rotec?
