I’ve been watching your videos because we actually both bought 2007 imprezas in the same week! And I spun a bearing about 3 days before you did ...LOL ....I also had a cylinder going out aswell...anyways I found a shop to rebuild my motor but it’s pretty high in mileage 175k...should I buy a jdm ej253 for 2200 and swap it myself (I’m capable and have the space) or go the rebuild route for around 1500 -3k

So after starting to take the motor apart (still in vehicle) I’ve inspected 3 of 4 rod bearings and have no issues ...I can’t get to rod 1 without pulling the motor but I can get my fingers on it to apply pressure and no play....so I’m almost positive it wasn’t a rod bearing considering the amount of metal in my pan and my crank was buttery smooth...I think next thing is pulling the motor :/

@@WrenchPLS That's super unfortunate to hear, but it is great to see another committed person getting right into working on their car. As far as engine options, I cant offer a ton of help because I honestly couldn't say what is better for you, but from my point of view, if cost is about the same and you're just going for stock power, I'd rebuild it because nothing beats a basically new motor. I'm sure you've read about the issues with machining or reusing badly worn Subaru cranks, but as long as there isn't really any damage or warpage from wear, metal is metal. As annoying and time consuming as it is, I'd probably pull the engine and do a full teardown before deciding. Just my opinion, so take it with a grain of salt, and thanks for the support on the channel.
