Welcome to my Patreon series on sculpting an expressive portrait from imagination and limited reference.
In this episode we will be working on finishing the sculpture and getting it ready for mold making and casting.
As reference we'll use a small maquette which we are scaling up from. This has a different set of challenges compared to when working from life, namely in inventing or infusing a new set of details into the larger scale sculpture, details and information which are not present in the small scale version. Hence the working from imagination. The portrait belongs to my over life-size sculpture Kronos. Enjoy!

Do you ever do sculptures without your headphones or music or any podcast? Isnt it a meditative experience without any audio? Whats your opinion

I do both. Music doesn't distract me from work. Unless I'm right at the beginning and need to think a lot I will usually listen to something.

Whats your opinion on oil based clay?

It's great! A bit slow for bigger pieces but for small stuff that would dry fast in water-based clay it's great! I like Chavant NSP and LeBau Touche.

I dont have studio...im just using my store room for art...so im using oil based clay. I use small scale portraits for ease...but is it recommended to do life size as a beginner in portraits

The most important thing is to sculpt! Doesn't matter how big or in what material as long as you sculpt.

No not really. I try to leave my work at the studio both physically and mentally.
