Oh wow. I was just reading my Brother ST4031HD serger manual last night and not understanding. Just two minutes into this video and I have a lightbulb moment. Have to finish reading my manual tonight hopefully so I can start using my new serger.

Very helpful! Using a serger is new for me and I was wondering what to do with the tail. Thank you for sharing and giving options.

If you have a visible serged edge and want a much prettier, neater finish, take a big if extra time and pull on your needle threads so that the chain straightens out into single threads again. Your looper threads will be way longer than your needle threads so trim them to the same kength then tie them off and thread the strands back through the serged seam.

I've tried that but my threads just seem to knot and are a pain to untangle. It's a shame as I would prefer this method since it looks better.

But if you are using this in a delicate garment a light knit fabric. Example: UV cut mask, like a veil to be used on the face and neck, this thread will look ugly and itch the skin. Should I choose smaller stitch size? It's hard to sew in a conventional machine the light knit specially if it's round to make the hem to hide the stitch to avoid itch the skin. I have to use the lettuce rolling on all the round area, in the capelet edges. I tried to roll the hem and do normal stitch on the sewing machine, but the light knit fabric keeps slippering, it's so hard.

I feel like I've stumbled upon Forbidden Knowledge. I've been using a serger for like 15 years and have been just manually tying the end threads in a knot the whole time lol

How does that work when the knife is in use?

Brenda Fuller ... When using the first method? Avoid the knife when overstitching the tails.
