Finishing The Pritchet Job

After having a front leaf spring break on trailmater, Mike and Shawn had to take the Deathstar in to weld the steering g together on the dodge from the Pritchet recovery we had done a couple days before. I was on my way to Grand Junction to drop my daughter off and took Big D to do a recovery up on top of the Bookcliffs. Some hunters had their truck slide off into a washout. So I ran up there and pulled them out while the guys were wrestling the dodge the rest if the way out of Pritchet Canyon. Thank you everyone for watching and supporting us.

First lesson I learned on first wheelin experience was keep thumbs and fingers outside of the steering wheel at all times. Very important for counting to 10 still. I still drive that way always. My brain just said, thats the way to do it, and never stopped. :) Nice scenery. Fun seeing both recoveries. You guys are always fun to watch, and informative as well. How to, and how not to do.

Yep, i have a cracked thumb from a steering wheel from my teenage years. It still hurts in my 40s. Very wise to figure it out before taking damage.

Best part of the video was SHAWN explaining how not to hold on to the steering wheel ,very good safety tip. IF you hold wrong it will break your fingers ,your arm, your shoulder an last but not least it will throw you out the window. SO pay attention. fyi

While in the service, a driver rolled a 6x6 off a rice paddy dike. The steering wheel spun so violently it pulled a finger out of his hand. He was lucky, others weren't so fortunate.

Driving an old non power steering work ute, i cracked a thumb when i hit a pothole at low speed. Have driven thumbs out ever since. I tried to train my fellow 4x4 club members to do the same, but got laughed at. Saw a post a couple years after i left the area, that someone completely destroyed one of their thumbs with a similar steering wheel to the one Shaun was dealing with. Top notch footage as usual guys. I still adore the under car shots showing the terrain, and the tyres and suspensioon working hard.

I admire Sean’s courage and toughness. I had a 1958 I H dump truck teach me to keep my thumbs outside the steering wheel. Hit me so hard I couldn’t pick up a nickel for two weeks. Thought sure it was broken but the doctor said it was only sprained. Once you have had that injury it takes courage to put your hands in the way of that particular harm again. Sean looked to me like he would have been just as happy to be grabbing a sidewinder as that steering wheel. Thumbs up tough guy!

It is crazy insane how much feedback there is in the steering wheel. For it to spin like that... there must be so so much tension that normally gets handled by power steering. Thankfully Shawn came out with all his fingers in tact. That thing looked terrifying spinning like that.
