I have commercial fished all my life and spent 1000's of hours down in Harkers Island NC building boats during the off season. I have to say your craftsmanship is amazing. We build our boats for the toughest conditions. I would take any vessel you build any day and not hesitate on its durability or safety. Job well done Captain.

I wanted to say thank you so much for making these videos! I have a 1975 19'fiberform, and oh boy all the wood was shot!! So for that last two weeks I've been ripping out everything, I'm currently sanding down all the interior hull and transem, hopefully by the end of the week I'll be ready to start cutting wood! Your videos have been a true Inspiration and motivation! I think I should start recording my work, I'm sure it will be amateur compared to your work!! Keep on keeping on, stay safe out there!! --HotRodHailey--

This is so much better than TV. I watch youtube more than anything else. And learn instead of getting exposed to commercials, and bad entertainment. So thanks for making this video-series. Hope you are out there enjoying the lakes with your family!

Hi, great set of video's, very educational. I had a similar experience in the 80's with a ski boat that looked great on top but was rotten under the floor. One thing I noticed is that you are putting your bulkheads in a and fully sealing them to the floor with peanut butter through the strakes, I left the gaps to the strakes on mine fully open just in case water that got through the floor has an easy path to the rear drain (and bilge pump), I also did the same to the stringers (with a small thin sheet of ply around the holes to add strength), this also helped to ventilate under the floor and allow moisture to dry out. Great project and I admire your tenacity in taking on what is not an easy task.

Man I want what you got you got more energy than I've ever seen anyone in my entire life I just can't see spending that much effort into the boat I'm not exactly sure what to say here but other then you are one dedicated individual

Well at least you know what you got after you get done doing all that I'm just amazed in your skill level to rebuild all of that is amazing I would have a freakin heart attack if my boat was like that. I'm here first video when you said the floor was rotten I think at that point I would have began to cry. Lol the beautiful thing as you know how to fix it and you did I could only imagine what you would pay to have that done unbelievable I learned how to winterize my boat because of you though so thanks

I pretty much said the same thing in a posting earlier but we'll let that rest. I want to inject what I think caused the water intrusion. As I said , I've owned boats all of my adult life. I think the Boat is over powered as it applies to the original construction quality. The other owner most likely ran and pounded the snot out of it which tore the transom loose from the hull and thus ---it leaked in water. It's just my theory.

Enjoyed watching your rebuild. One thing I'm not seeing and is probably too late to address if you hadn't done it, is how will water if it were to accumulate in the far port and starboard stringers pass down to the lower compartment where the bildge will be.There are drain holes from bow to stern, but I didn't see any port to starboard in all the neighboring compartments.

Watching this video 4 years later this is the very first thing that came to mind... nowhere for the water to go, some cracks in the resin and boom same old problems as what he had in the first place. I most certainly would have cut reliefs to get ANY water to travel back to the plug.

This is a great project...you have to love this boat and enjoy it knowing you are never going to get your money back out of it. I did one and took a loss but not really because I enjoyed the boat for 8 more years.

I commend your hard work on this boat, it's a good thing you were optimistic instead of itching to unload the boat to another person when you found the rot. It's a lot of work but in the end you'll know it's done right.

They are totally sealed off. The factory did not do this, but I made sure they were water tight. The center compartments all drain to the back.

I want you to know looks good I got the same one mine dose 82 on water I got the big block 455. Know issues but you did a great job

I doubt the length of vent hose would be an issue, does it have a one way valve in it somewhere? If the hose is long and under the deck I reckon condensation would form inside it, especially with your wide temperature changes you experience there! Just a thought as I have seen water droplets inside my tote tank hose, as I have them installed at the bow to help with the trim while underway. Cheers Will.

glass the stringers first just for ease of space, just my opinion, run the vent hose around. that's what i would do.

just make sure your boat an stay afloat with more than 4 compartments flooded if you hit an iceberg !

Ok, so I just received a 1981chaparral 187 bow rider boat. It sits on a trailer that has rollers. I didn't know if its ok to pull the stringers out of the boat as it sits like this? Id imagine the boat would flex. Whats the right way to take on this project?
@FriscoBoatersGarage8 жыл бұрын
+righthanded10 Rollers can cause problems. You need to support it
@righthanded108 жыл бұрын
Ok, so probably do nont try it on the trailer then.

I had a couple of small blocks with outdrives laying around so lookd for a glass boat to just put engine and outdrive in and go well one I found was a 24 searay that had all the same issues, you do nice work but I'd guess what ever caused the rot to begin with you bilt right back into it , in my case Ifound the fancy front hatch for the anchor drains were not big enough to let freash water out only into the plywood witch soakd it right up bow to stern, hench dryrot, I got sick ex did not pay rent on house so had to move stepson took boat sold it to a guy in me. who loves it went to a repo yard looking for parts and yard is full of big searays that owners gave up, most are still full of personal stuff like kids toys etc, my best guess is if you look at a glass boat get a survey first, might cost you ten or twelve dollars a foot but it is cheaper in the long run, now I'll go back to a wooden boat they are easdier to fix, enjoy your boat you certainly workd hard enough on it

As long as there was a place to let the air escape when your filling it up, I would "ASS U ME" that you could run the hose anywhere. Its Only for venting Right? As long as it was ventilated.

So how many of your neighbors did you have to promise rides to for putting up with all the dust you're probably making? Just kidding. Great bunch of vids I'm watching them all. You're like a boating Bob Vila lol. Happy boating.
@davidyork7516 жыл бұрын
you will have a problem with fuel staying in the line, thus not a lowing the tank to vent properly,this is why they make the vent lines as short as possible, to late for this but maybe you got it figured out.
