Breathtaking song. The perfect combination of Neil Finn's sweetness and Tim Finn's edginess, Neil's melodies and Tim's discord, Neil's ability to capture the perfect tune and Tim's eccentricity in nearly avoiding it. The two of them working perfectly together. And those harmonies...!
@kev10ok5 жыл бұрын
Don't think he really means discord, maybe a little reluctance to sing such an emotional piece maybe?
@Phangmaster4 жыл бұрын
everyone thinks that but actually it's Neil that's often the most edgy of the two, according to Tim.
@Bloomers19694 жыл бұрын
No, I meant what I said. There's discord. But there's nothing wrong with discord, it's a perfectly valid musical skill to master. musicterms.artopium.com/d/Discord.htm
@Bloomers19694 жыл бұрын
@@Phangmaster that's interesting. I'm perfectly happy to defer to Tim's (obviously better) knowledge of these things, but I guess for me, Tim always sounds musically more edgy, and Neil sounds a little more melodic. Tim would have been John, Neil Paul, if you don't mind the tired comparison. Nice to know Tim's take on it though, I guess he'll certainly have a deeper understanding.

I've seen Crowded House a few times but never with Tim in the line up. Seeing The Finn Brothers sing this live was one of the greatest musical moments of my life. There is something very special about these two

This song tears me apart as it's release coincides with my parents passing. When I hear "Everybody wants the same thing....to see another birthday"....damn. But a wonderful song none the less.

I first heard this on WXPN, in Philly, I ran out that night, and bought the album…. 17 years later, Everyone Is Here, is still one of my most beloved & heavily played albums in my playlist… With Edible Flowers, still as beautiful as ever… I love it !!!!

edible flowers ..beautiful track and I remember singing it lots of times with the love of my life and doing the harmonies together. I've also heard Crowded House live and went to the final concert tour of Split Enz at James Hay theatre in Çhçh way back when Crowded House were an incredible band and the Finn brothers in my view are the best song writers and produced some of the biggest selling albumns in nz music history

Great performance !!! Nothing beats the two brothers performing together!!! What a lovely live show !! Little in pop music today can compete...these guys can write pop songs like those of bygone days!!!! I wonder if you hooked up the Finn Bros with McCartney what would come of it??? Lock them up in a studio for a week and they will come up with songs we'll be singing for years.. A million thanks my friend for uploading these songs for us......cheers.

When i was traveling to Australia and NZ back in 1980, had a chance to see Split Enz, fell in love with them. Back in the states 3 months later, they were all over the air waves. Saw the Finns in many forms. Once again, i was so lucky to be working for Mitchell Froom productions in 1990 and who was one of the artists under contract? Well it was Crowded House.

I remember seeing them live in concert in central London. Packed full concert. Brilliant they were too, despite the fact they were close to cancelling that tour due to their ex drummer Hester taking his life around the same time, Neil's best friend, very sad. Due to depression, an illness that needs to be treated.

Brilliant lesson in song writing...starts out in this super dark minor key motif, then it lifts everything up in the chorus to a much more positive feel. I think might be shifting to the relative major. (limited music theory) Then it resolves back to the minor. The contrast makes it so great whatever you name.

@ Jimmy Hayes.....It is you who are mistaken here. This song was written when the boys were performing as Split Enz. However, it was not released until much later. How can one "Cover" their own material for heaven's sake? With all your rambling, it is you who are "creeping" me out!

Look is even not their song! They covered! This song it belongs on album "Play It Straight" and that album is not Finn Brothers' album! And they singing like their own song! Creep! And Neil Finn afraid to sing he makes his brother sing in case dangerous Eddie Rayner wouldn't come and wouldn't kill them with his creepy wrinkles! Something smells really creepy around there! Creepy crickets!

Eddie is not the author of this song, he rearranged it to the album "Play It Straight" Authors are Neil and Tim, they wrote this song at Split Enz era. Look at credits for "Play It Straight": Written-By - Bic Runga (tracks: 12), Brian Baker (5) (tracks: 3, 4, 7, 9), Chris Knox (tracks: 10), Corben Simpson (tracks: 8), Eddie Rayner (tracks: 3, 9, 13), Phil Judd (tracks: 6, 11), Split Enz (tracks: 2), Ted Chapman (tracks: 1) Track 2 is Edible Flowers.

What the hell is wrong with you? Artists play covers all the time, it's perfectly acceptable and certainly isn't something to lose your shit over. And besides that you're not even right - it is their song. Maybe check your facts before going off on one in future? But better still, don't get all worked up about something totally normal and benign in the first place.
