It’s not as bad as what your mind makes it out to be in your youth. As you grow older and they grow older, it becomes almost like you get used to the idea that all life is just awaiting death. The trick is not to waste the life you’re living. Finneas wrote about this in Only a Lifetime. One of the greatest songs ever written. My mom died last May. It was unexpected, but I was so blessed…you know why? Because I saw her every day almost for 7 years before she died. She died knowing I was there and we both loved each other so much. If I had not moved home to be with her, her death would have hit me hard. Don’t waste the time you have.

I don't think I've ever heard a song of Finneas that hasn't successfully pulled me in immediately... he has such an enchanting way with words and expressing their meaning perfectly in a melody and singing style. I was distractedly listening to a random playlist for hours and this song came up which I have never heard before and got me to stop what I was doing and just listening.

This song is so deep it’s difficult to truly understand it at first… but I think all of us have an underlying dread that we try our best to ignore, and that is the impermanence of life. Its extremely painful to consciously realize that we will die, even though it’s obvious. It’s even more painful to be aware of the fact that those we love will die, especially our parents. the sad thing about this song is that you don’t have to have been through a tough breakup or something, this song is about love in general. it’s so hard to love, yet it’s one of the easiest things to share with people. it’s so sad, this song, and the fact that pretty much everyone can relate. if that is your love towards your parents, a sibling, a friend, a lover, a lost one, anyone really. it hits so close to home. “wish it wasn’t mandatory dying” has me sobbing
