I grew up in Finland. Thank you so much for this recipe, ohrarieska always was my favorite bread. My favorite way to enjoy it is to just spread cold butter on the fresh warm bread. If you want something more, a mild cheese like Edam or Havarti would be delicious and authentic, and thin seedless cucumber slices. Yummy!

simple and clear, as always. I have bere meal i bought on holiday in scotland, so i'm not going to use cream, as that wouldn't be authentic, but i will use the temperature, cooking time, thickness, size, quantities and texture of mix as the packet recipe was appalling in all these respects! Looking forward to it:)

I make this with dal, works well. Wonder if the recipe would work with spelt.

Do you mean Chana Dal? I purchased some for soups but rarely use it.

If someone wanted this to be an unleavened bread, how would it turn out without any baking soda?

can you sub. water for the milk and cream? thank you for the video
@Nightbird.4 жыл бұрын
Usually these are added to bread recipes to keep the bread moist. I would substitute coconut water and coconut cream if you are avoiding dairy products so the bread stays moist..because as she said it already has a dry texture.

why no yeast
@texan45486 жыл бұрын
not needed. it doesn't rise
@Nightbird.4 жыл бұрын
But you can still add yeast if you like for a different texture or flavor. It's just not necessary as Texan mentioned.

I really thought this was shortbread when I saw it. Is shortbread a bread technically?.
@TheBreadKitchen10 жыл бұрын
Hawa Osman It's an interesting question. Shortbread is just flour, butter and sugar. As it lacks water I wouldn't class it as a bread, and I've never seen it included in any bread books either.

This bread is so healthy for diabetes and vessels, heart diseases
@Nightbird.4 жыл бұрын
That's what I'm hoping for as a type 2 diabetic. I purchased barley to add to my soups but it's just sitting in my pantry because I don't enjoy the slightly slimy feel it has when eating it. So I'm hoping I can enjoy it as a bread..especially since I avoid bread now because it raises my blood sugar to dangerous levels.
